Can anybody recommend a good face mask that would make my complexion a little brighter? I currently use Proactive. I don't have acne, just a blemish or two every now and then. I use the whole set of skin care product including the cleanser, toner, repairing lotion, oil control lotion, and oil free moisturizer. I do use their mask every now and then and it's great for absorbing oil. I have had very oily skin in the past and this skincare line works great for reducing oil without drying out my face.
So, I am really just looking for a separate facial mask that might make my complexion a little brighter so I can go without makeup in the spring/summer without scaring everybody!
What do y'all think would be the best mask for me to try?
Forget a mask for dull skin, instead use something exfoliating. Like the at home dermabrasion kits. I too have acnegenic skin, and personally like Philosophy's Vitamin C scrub thing. I do my normal acne care wash routine afterwards just to be on the safe side pimple-wise. Works every time for me when my skin gets dull and flakey.
i use this stuff and it works wonders on my skin. especially after a night out in a bar with the smoke and the alcohol and being up late. i love it. you can get it on hsn.com. it is from serious skin care and i cannot rave about their products enough. i love everything i have ever tried from them. their products are amazing!!!!!!!
I use Proactiv, too. I'm not too crazy about masks for reviving my skin. I think steaming my face or using my Neutrogena Microdermabrasion Kit helps. Of course, if you have the $, a facial seems to brighten my skin up the longest.
i like to do a aspirin mask 2-3 times a week. it cleans my pores, gets rid off all the "gunk" and takes away redness.
first clean your face, then you crush 5 uncoated aspirin, mix with a couple drops of water to make a paste, then you can add a bit of honey or yogurt for moisture. you leave it on your face for about 10 minutes, and rinse with clean hands. it always brightens my face. then follow with a moisturizer.

i like this dr. hauschka exfoliating goop--it's called "cleansing cream" but is really an exfoliator. my skin is dry and pretty sensitive, and this is gentle enough to use every day to polish off dead cells and brighten up my skin. it's all natural and not harsh. you can get it at whole foods and at some beauty supply stores (actually, i think sephora carries it)--it's about $22-25.
I do this too, same formula and it is the cheapest thing out there and already in your home. I love it and my skin looks great afterwards.

i tried this last night while i was watching what not to wear and it is so great. i usually have a bit of redness over my cheeks and the sides of my nose and chin and it took away most of it. and my skin was so smooth and glowey after. thanks for the tip shopgirl!!!

oh i'm sooo glad. i still have a nice mask that i use, but i feel like i go to this WAYYYY more than any other mask. it totally takes away the redness and uneveness in your skin tone.
i'm so glad you tried it and liked it.

I wanted to try the asprin mask, but I could not find ANY uncoated asprin. What brand should I be looking for, or what store do you get yours at? thanks!
another q about the aspirin mask...how do you guys crush the pills? you don't need like a mortar and pestle do you? i usually crush things in the kitchen with it zipped inside a baggie and using my meat tenderizer...
brazilian- the uncoated can look like this: (it's 2/$3.99 at walgreens right now)
or say chewable and look like this:
valenciana: i used to do it the shaddy druggie way by taking a credit card and crushing it on the glass table. you don't need to crush it completely, since the water helps dissolve it. then when i added the drops of water, i would take the spoon and chop at it some more when it's in the cup with the water. after one too many from my bf, and being worried that i was scratching the glass, and getting chemical glass cleaner on my face, i decided to by a $10 mortar and pestle from TJ Maxx.
