Netflix apparently favors new customers. I have had a couple movies at the top of my queue that have said "very long wait" for a few weeks now. My friend just signed up last week (at my recommendation, I might add) and she has already gotten 3 movies that say "very long wait" for me. I called them up and the customer service rep was really snotty. She kept telling me it was first come first serve, but how could it be when I've had those movies at the top of my list since before my friend was even a member? I'm so pissed right now! I'm thinking of switching to Blockbuster's online service, but I don't have the time to transition my queue over.
There was an article posted on this board somewhere about this - so I can't believe customer service bold faced lied to you. I'll see if I can find it.
The link on that thread didn't work so here is a similar, if not the same, article - there is even a name for it! Throttling
I'm sorry Maat. I find their queue's frustrating too. I remember reading how they favor the trial members and new members but lately I've been ok with getting movies that say long or short wait. I actually moved a workout video to the top of my queue that is available now and I've had them pull movies below it instead of it which makes me mad including one that had a long wait. I don't understand them sometimes but dont' change to blockbuster. They are the devil.
I just called and spoke to a different representative. I mentioned the article in both this conversation with customer service and my original one. This time I also mentioned the pages of reviews on epinions.com where people were saying the same thing as me. The cs guy gave me a free upgrade for a month where I can have 4 movies instead of 3 and told me he'd make sure I was next to receive Pride and Prejudice, which has been on my queue as "very long wait." If I keep having problems, I will cancel though.

Pride & Prejudice is the movie you were trying to get? This baffles me, because it's in my queue and says "available now"

Can I ask why you think Blockbuster is the devil? I always rent from Blockbuster, I have tried other places but they suck 1000's times more than Blockbuster ever could. I am just curious why you think they are so bad!

Bastards! I do see that they added it to my movies shipping list per my conversation with the last rep. Hey, can you check Walk the Line? That is the other one I've been waiting for.
Netflix baffles me too. I've had Walk The Line on my list since it was released in theatres. It moved to my queue as soon as it came out on DVD. I moved it to the top of my list right away. It said available "NOW." Then as soon as Reese won the Oscar it became "Very Long Wait" Huh? How did it go from Now to Long Wait when it was already at the top of my list? I can see that a bunch of people may have added it to their queue, but shouldn't I be top priority since I been in line for it for 4 months or whatever?
Even tho it said "Very Long Wait" I got it right away.
I actually don't mind if the system is kind of random, but I don't like that they lie about it.

Calling them again....I can't believe I am wasting so much time calling them, but this is really maddening.
Jackie - I've had way too many issues with Blockbuster and late fees and other issues so I cancelled by membership there 2 years ago and haven't gone back. Maybe it was the locations I was going to. I dunno.
Maat - that is strange because I am a high volume renter 5-6 dvds a week on my 3 at a time plan and I had long wait on both walk the line and pride and prejudice but I've gotten them both this week and not my Biggest Loser Workout DVD which is in my #1 slot and available now!!!
See what happens if you create another user queue under your account. I've read that sometimes that might help. Give them 1 at a time or something.
Oh no!!! I'm a brand new member (signed up last week) and it's been wonderful! I hope it stays that way. But our movie list is really really random, so we may not have too much of a problem. *crosses fingers* That sucks though. Definitely let us know how it goes!
NC - for the most part I don't have a huge problem with netflix. there is rarely a time when i have something that says long wait in my queue and I get movies pretty fast. the only time when it took more than a day to get something was when a movie came from their home office in san jose - it took 2 days. I'm pretty happy with their service and I have so much in my queue it really doesn't matter if I get something else in my list or something at the top.
BTW are you one of my netflix buddies? Would you like to be?
