Isaac Hayes, who does the voice of Chef on South Park, is quitting the show. He is a scientologist, and he doesn't like the fact that they poked fun at his religion. Matt Stone (co-creator of the show) said it best:
"never heard a peep out of Isaac in any way until we did Scientology. [An episode in November poked fun at the Church of Scientology and its celebrity followers.] He wants a different standard for religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and bigotry begin."
I wonder if they are going to get rid of Chef or find another voice?

my bet is that they'll kill him off - kind of a big "f-you." maybe l. ron hubbard will come to take him to his new planet or whatever the hell it is they believe...
how hypocritical of isaac hayes. and i really just do not get the scientology thing. maybe i'll make up my own religion and write a book about it and see how long it takes for celebrities to latch on.

I was a little pissed when I heard this. South Park is an equal oppturnity offender. He didn't seem to have a problem cashing the paychecks when the slam every other relgion. Good ole scientology.

I was sad to see this, too, and then a little ticked off when I thought about it. I can understanding sticking up for your faith, something that you truly believe, but he's applying a double-standard in my view. Southpark has ripped on Christians from Day One... in ways a lot of people (even non-Christians) might find offensive. In comparison, the Scientology episode wasn't even that bad.
I'm in denial. I'm hoping it is some kind of publicity stunt. I can't imagine the show without Chef. Chef is the freakin' best! There is really nothing they can do to make this okay if he doesn't change his mind.
