China and Hong Kong

Looking for any recs on what time of year to go, things to see, etc.  Any feedback about going to China at all, really.  I have a friend who recently moved to Beijing, so I am toying with the idea of going for a trip.

I've been to Japan before, in the spring, and thought that was a great time of year.  Would that be the case in China also, as they are in the same general area of the world?

ive been to beijing. spent a month there on study abroad. it was during the summer, july, and was filthy hot. if you can afford the airfar there i would say go for it. it's awesome. what is your friend doing there?

autumn is the nicest time to go. summer is really hot and really touristy and winter is just not workable because it's super cold. spring, while temperature is wonderfully, is incredibly windy and dusty. they suffer from sandstorms in the spring that blow in from the north, plus it's just simply dusty from all the construction sites around the city. if you can go, i would recommend going either in sep-early nov, or late may to late june.

detroit also has been to detroit, i believe.

I went to Hong Kong in late May to early June.  It was a really fast trip, but the weather was nice--not too cool, nor too humid.

Well I have never been to Hong Kong, but I have been to several places in China. Beijing is really pretty and clean. The famous places are the Forbidden City, Great Wall, Summer Palace..etc.

I have relatives in Shanghai, so I go there often, but it is a really fun city. It is similar to Hong Kong in they are both pretty modern and have lots of great shopping and food.

Last year I went to Guilin and it was beautiful! The mountains rise up straight from the ground. Here are a couple pics from out trip.
