The 80's Style is BACK!
Permalink Closed

So the 80's are here again, as evidensed by the leggins, big tops, and general 80's rock styles out there now.

So, can you stand it?  I CAN'T!!!!!!!!!!   To me the 80's will always be a tragic decade for style, but I can remember when bell bottoms and wide legs came back on the scene in the 90's and people from the 70's were saying the same thing I'm saying now.  How do you all feel about the 80's styles?  Oh, and when you respond can you include your age, because I have a feeling that's a factor.

I'm 28 and cannot stand this 80's revival.  Et tu?

I am just saying NO to 80's style!!  My girlfriends and I (all late 20s - early 30s) just had a big discussion about how unfortunate this trend is.

There are some very subtle influences that I will support, like my skinny jeans and certain dresses with leggings, but that's it.

I'm 25 and will not support the 80's trend.  I won't even wear skinny jeans because it's too 80's for me.

I'm 24 and really dislike it, too... even though the leggings look might look cute on others, I'll be taking a pass, along with the baggy tops, skinny jeans, all of that.  It's just not my style.

I'm 27 and I won't be doing the 80s look.  While I think the leggings + skirt look is cute, it's definitely not for me.  I may consider some of the bigger tops, but if I try one on and feel like I need to tie it in a knot on the side, it's going back on the rack.  :P

I dislike the return of the 80s too.  I'm 31, so I've already done those looks.  However, my general feeling is that a lot of the looks from the 80s are really unflattering.  I know a lot of people like skinny jeans, but I still think it is unflattering on a lot of body types.

There are a few little things that I like.  Big earings and big, colorful bracelets for examples, but I'm not sure those things are 80s as they seem to have come back around several times.

oh man- I'm 32 and I'm afraid to admit that I actually do like alot of elements of 80's style, like the skinny jeans, leggings (just bought some) pointy shoes...BUT, there are alot of things I hate like shoulder pads, big hair and bad hair in general, anything spandex...

I don't know, maybe I'm trying to relive my youth or something, but I think 80's stuff is just fun, and yes, I still think John Taylor is HOT!

Hmph. I was in my teens (high school) in the mid-eighties, and I LIVED those trends. Of course, in my teen years, I could wear all of them (not that I or my friends *should* have, but that's a whole other issue).

I am now 38 and won't be doing the eighties look ever again. I am old enough to have done it once, and IMO that saying holds true - I won't go back to it.

UGH i hate 80's fashion.  I like every other decade- even 1800's prairie girl style (not full on, but elements of it)- 1980's is the one that gets under my skin.  That said, i like skinny jeans, but more in a mod 60's edie sedgwick way- i think thats where the trends were originally trying to go with the leggings and such, but some people just pull it off in a more 80's way.  Shudder.  I'm not a fan of those footless leggings.

I'm 20.

I lived through some of it as a kid...I had a collection of black leggings that I always wore with oversized tees...the more graphic the better. Oh, and I tied my shirts at the side all ghetto-like since I didn't have those plastic things you pulled your t-shirts through.

I do like elements of it...the skinny jeans, the pointy toe flats, the legggings. I actually really love leotards and wish to God they and more dancewear would come back since right now I don't have the balls to wear one.

I still hate big hair, big shoulder pads and am generally not a fan of all the chunky plastick-y jewelry. That's too elementary school for me. I also can't endorse scrunchies.

No, I don't care for it either.  Do you suppose we'll also see acid wash jeans, neon shirts, and jams, too?

I am 26 and am not a fan of the 80's style coming back.  The only one I even remotely intend on trying is leggings with skirts, and I don't intend on doing it in an 80's fashion sort of way.

LOL...Jams!  Sorry, that gives me a giggle.

I'm waiting for the return of the Shaker sweater!  I lived in those and skin tight jeans in, oh, must have been 1987.

I'm 24 and I hate the 80's style.  I was young during the 80's but have an older brother and sister who were in their teens in the late 80's, so I was quite influenced by the trends even at a young age.  I'm not much of a trend follower though--my style and taste stays fairly consistent.

I agree with everyone else. The only trends from the 80's I like are the leggings and skinny jeans. However, like the others, I don't plan on wearing it in an 80's way with the big shirts and plastic jewelry. I feel like designers have done a good job modernizing those trends and mixing them with influences from other decades.

omg, shaker sweaters and jams!  i hadn't thought about those.

i wore a lot of leggings and big sweatshirts (or tees pulled through one of those plastis round clips) when i was in elementary/junior high school.  i really cannot see myself going back to neon colors and big plastic jewelry--that's the stuff that irks me the most.  i might try leggings, slip-on vans sneakers, and skinny jeans again, though--i think i will wait a bit and see if it grows on me.

And just how do you plan to do that, missy?

Well missy  first off, I plan on doing brown instead of black.  And I plan on pairing them with this denim skirt from AE, it's hard to tell from this pic, but it has gold embellishment on it.  As far as shoes and tops, I'm not sure until I actually get some and play around with it all in my closet, maybe espadrilles/wedges or my weavvers.

So, I'll actually be putting a feminine boho-ish vibe to it instead.  Is that a sufficent enough answer
