I went to Nobu Next Door in Feb. 2003 and it was out of this world. It may have been the best meal I've ever eaten. I went with my BF and a couple of our friends after going to a Broadway show.

You'll have to make reservations at least 4 months in advance to go to the regular Nobu, but Next Door would just be a long wait. I don't think they do reservations. We got there around 11:15 PM and were told there was a 60 minute wait. So we went to another bar since NND was filled to capacity and they called us on one of our cell phones to tell us our table was ready at 11:45. We were there and drunk until 2 AM. Good times. Great hot sake.

The only thing is that the sushi is kinda eh...really good, but not as good as I would've expected. The hot dishes and desserts were nothing short of breakthtaking, though.

Nobu is fancier and more spacious than NND, which can get a bit cramped if it's full. I believe that you have to dress up to go to Nobu, but we dined at NND in (nice) jeans with no problem.

The food comes from the same kitchen, so there's no depreciation in quality. Our friends who ate with my BF and I had also eaten at the regular Nobu and said it was exactly the same. It's more of an ambience/crowd thing.
