Cool poll!

I will incorporate only a few:

- woven accessories, because I like texture and find woven stuff looks very spring/summery to me

- feminine details, because I love feminine details, and already have some of this in my wardrobe

- cargo pants, because I feel like they have moved a bit from "trendy" to "staple" items

- platforms - I already own some, and will likely buy more because I find them quite comfortable

as for the rest:

- I don't wear shorts

- I don't consider espadrilles a good enough value for the money (they don't hold up for as long as I'd like, so I won't buy them)

- I've tried, but don't really wear white shirts

- crochet is not my style, though I love it on other people

- skinny jeans will not flatter me. Ditto for puffy sleeves

- I don't like leggings, gladiator shoes, or bubble skirts, and I'm not into the nautical look

- IMO short shorts are so rarely done well. I personally think that once you're past your teen years, or *really* have the right figure for them (i.e. about zero body fat), they look good. Otherwise...I can't stand them.

- draping is good, if done well, but I won't look specifically for draped items just because they're "in". Same for slouchy pants.

What else I want to incorporate:

- neutrals. I can always use more!

- coral. I bought a lot of coral this month at a gem show and am wanting to make some cool coral jewelry

- brighter, bolder handbags

otherwise, I don't really worry much about trends. I just buy what I like. *s*

You know you really have a point there. The way I wear thru shoes I dont think I would have them more than one, maybe two seasons. The ones that do appeal to me are the more expensive versions like Michael Kors, and Anthro- so, it wouldnt be good value for me also. I usually dont wear shorts either. But, In California where it can linger above 100+ for days on end- I have suffered. So, I have bought two pair for the first year ever. I did buy inexpensive versions at American Eagle, so if by chance I cant get myself to feel comfortable in them, I wont feel too bad. I bought these:

I am loving all three of these, but more than I can spend so I will keep searching for a less expensive alternative.

I'm into the sweaters open with the self belt. I'll be doing that tomorrow or the next day, I think (I planned out this weeks outfits 'cause I was being a big dork this weekend). I'm into feminine details (as always... I didn't even realize this is a trend) and slouchy pants (again I'm always into these as they help hide my ample thighs).

For the record, I so would love to wear the shorts dressed up look, but with thighs like mine it's better to keep 'em in skirts or pants. But, you girls have lots of fun with 'em and be sure to post in TS so I can drool.

Also, I find nautical looks to be a staple of summer so I wear that too, but not intentionally as a trend; same with espradilles (I've had a pair I have worn since 2001 and still wear them).

I'll probably be doing:

platform sandles (as long as they have a chunky heel)- I love and need the extra height!
feminine details- always a staple for me
skinny jeans- never thought I'd be doing this, but I think they actually flatter me more than bootcuts!
maybe woven accessories if I can find a cute basket style purse (there was a kate spade last spring that I loved)
espadrilles- just the ones I bought last year though
nautical- as long as it isn't over the top, its so classic.
bermuda shorts if i can find the perfect pair.

god, this makes me look liek such a trend whore! i swear I'm not, a lot of my normal style is "in" this spring and I already have a lot of this stuff!

interestingly enough a lot of things on that list i don't really consider trends, and already incorporate in my wardrobe...

imho espadrilles, nautical looks, crochet, and woven accessories are essentials (not in the sense that everyone should own them) of every spring season.

the white shirt is pretty much a staple, as are feminine details (every season there's a blurb on feminine details and really it's the same s**t done in a different way), and puffy sleeves (i always see a couple of pieces each season with puffy sleeves).

the boho thing i think was more a last summer thing. i don't really consider that style of sweater in the pic to be really boho, but that's just me. i lump gladiator sandals and drapey tops,with boho stuff, but i do think drapey tops are becoming more of a staple.

the only stuff that i think of as trendy (as in it hasn't really been done b/f or at least in a long time are

*cinched waists -- doing & will continue to do

*shorts -- i love shorts. i love wearing them. i'm very pleased at the prospect of being able to wear ones outside of my house that aren't cut offs

*skinny jeans -- doing. i like it, it's fresh, and when done correctly can look really good & classic in an unexpected way

*platforms/stacked heels -- doing. again it's just a different look so it feels fresh.

*leggings -- hell no! i really haven't seen anyone wear these and not look like a fashion victim

*bubble skirts -- doing & will continue to do. i feel like they're the gauchos of 2006

eta: forgot to add 2 things i'm dying to try -- higher waisted pants & skirts (would love to score some 70's style denim trousers at an affordable price) and pleated pencil skirts.

I hate trends.

I plan on wearing white shirts, slouchy pants, gladiatory sandals, and nautical stuff. None of which should be too trendy. I wear the same clothes for years and I like my interesting pieces to be interesting for more than a few months.

Here are the trends that I am working with or looking forward to

1- Platform Pumps (knockoff louboutin style - they are just damn sexy)

2- Leggings (it might be fashion victim, but it's the only way I would wear shorts or minis since I hate my knees)

3- Bubble skirt ( I bought the greatest eyelet pouf skirt by Tracy Reese last weekend, so I will be wearing it a lot. Not as into the jersey bubbles and bubble minis though)

4- Dresses (This one will be hard since I have tried on a million dresses lately, and can't find any that are flattering. The shirt dresses I have tried are too retro, and the jersey dresses are usually a little plain for my style)

5- Patent leather (I love this trend, already bought a nude patent leather wallet, and currently hunting for patent shoes)

6- Skinny jeans (just because I like looking at a new silhouette)

7- Waist accentuating belts ( I love belts!)

8- Probably will pick up a few nautical pieces, but I wouldn't do head to toe

I've always been a more dressy person, so feminine details are everywhere in my wardrobe. The woven accessory/espadrille/cargo trends are just too casual for my tastes. Slouchy pants and poufy sleeves make me look fat.

Espadrille: I already have these C Label ones from last year...they cost me about $160 so while I'll be partaking in the trend, I won't be buying any more. These are so neutral as it stands.

The short short:I bought two pairs and can't wait to wear them. I'm only 20 so IMO they're still age-appropriate. I think they look really cute when done right, and I'm looking forward to working with them. They'll be wonderful in hot California summers.

Waist accentuating belts: I've done this since late last summer. I'm looking for one though for all the black based outfits.

Leggings: I bought two pairs on the cheap at the American Rag sale. I'll be having fun wearing them with my miniskirts and all. I'm really excited about them...it's trendy, but I have always loved the look and feel of dancewear.

Feminine details: They already exist in my wardrobe, but I'm always on the lookout for pieces with feminine details. This may be the year I invest in something from Nanette Lepore. We'll see.

Need to get

Bubble skirt: I'm planning on getting one because I can wear it to work and they're so comfy. I just have to pick a color and get it.

Puffy sleeves:They hide my gigantic upper arms (works in progress...I am lifting weights at the gym). I just need to shop for ones that I like.

Skinny Jeans: This will probably be a reward for when I get to my goal size (consistent 25/26 in designer jeans). I like them, but BF hates them...I would LOVE to be small enough to own a pair of Sass and Bide Frayed Misfits. I'm not even sure which color I'd get...I'd just be so happy not to have my butt spilling out the back.

Maybes

Drapey tops: Big boobs + Small waist = not participating unless I find one that accomodates said boobs nicely which I haven't been too successful at. The ones I love are at ridiculously high price points (i.e: Vanessa Bruno, See by Chole)

cargo pant: Ehhhhh...I've always wanted a pair of A&F cargo pants, but it's the same thing with the A&F miniskirt...I can't ever bring myself to pay full price for anything and at A&F the good stuff never goes on sale. I like this pair and COULD justify it because I have a pair of French Connection karate pants that are on their last legs. But they do cost $80.

Nautical: I haven't seen the right pair of sailor pants come along...they never fit right. I probably would be willing to hunt for the Juicy sailor pants from 2004 though...those were the BEST fitting sailor pants and in my top 5 pants of all time. I also like the whole stripes thing but I'm looking for the perfect black/white stripe top since navy is a horrid color in my world. I wouldn't touch anything else.

The white shirt: I'm iffy because my 34Ds never fit into button downs. If I find a cute one, it will be a miracle. I really want one with a lot of interesting detail though becuase I find white button downs generally to be so boring. I like some of the ones that everyone here likes, but I'm 90% sure they'll never button over my chest.

Crochet: Nothing crocheted has sung out to me yet this season, which is a shame because my mom has some awesome vintage 70s crochet she made herself. If I see something, I'll entertain owning it but it's not a priority by any means. I guess I just want my mom's olive crochet skirt...I could do great things with it now.

The platform: I appreciate anything that gives me height, but it will take a lot for me to buy a new pair of shoes that can't withstand 45 minutes of hard, fast walking and hold my feet up for 10 hours a day at work.

No Way (I should note that I almost never rule anything out in my wardrobe, but these are consistently things I say "no" to.)

Bohemian: I'm not an easying crunchy boho. I don't want to dress like one.

A slouchier pant: I love the ease, comfort, and look but it ALWAYS looks stupid on me because I'm curvy. I'm really proud of my figure and slouchier pants hide it and make me look way bigger than I am. Blah.

Gladiator inspired: I have giant calves and the last thing they need is to be caged into sandals. I think this look shortens the leg and I need all the leg lengthening I can get.

Woven accesories: Nothing personal...it's just not my style at all. All the woven stuff is either too boho or too preppy.

want: cargo pants (maybe a more streamlined version), nautical stuff

can't do: skinny jeans (though I have some straighter leg...the thought of skintight jeans on my bird legs makes me gag), waist belts (too short/thick-waisted)

can't stand: bubble skirts, leggings

I am ambivalent about the rest.

DONE:

espadrille- i have a pair of them that are about 3 years old. i don't really care for them and rarely wear them

waist belts- i just bought a brown one and i want to get a black or dark brown one too

bubble skirt- i bought one and LOVE it. i double it as a dress and can't get enough of it.

white shirt- now i am talking classic white button down type of shirt- which to me, is never out of style. there is an article in Bazaar this month where Carolina Herrera talks about the classic white shirt

i always do cargo pants. i have a slouchy pair from three or four years ago that i wear all.the.time. i love them and really don't consider them "trendy" either

platform shoes... SO glad these came back! i'll do anything for a little extra height!

DON'T:

skinny jeans- i would look like a grand prize idiot in skinny jeans.

gladiator sanals- not for me. i am WAY too short to rock these out

bohemian... so over and never was "in" for me anyway... i just don't care for this look

shorts- i HATE shorts. my entire family makes fun of me b/c i don't wear shorts.

Well, I normally don't really do trends too much, but I think I'm going to this summer because I feel like a lot of them aren't really "trendy" if that makes any sense. Like espadrilles. Espadrilles have always been a summer staple and so labeling them as "trendy" seems a bit odd.

But anyway.

1) Espadrilles

2) Nautical, but not so much in an "outfit" kinda way, more just incorporating the colors into my wardrobe, like red, navy, white, kelly green.

3) Woven bags, just cuz I have a great one my mom got for me in France.

4) Bubble skirts. I won't spend more than $50 on it, but I want one to replace the tiered Target skirt that I wore to death last year.

5) Maybe some long shorts, but definitely no short shorts for this girl!

Things I definitely WON'T be doing:

I don't really have anything against these pieces, but these looks are all super unflattering for me.

Bohemian: I tend to gravitate towards bohemian/loose things, but in more of an urban way. I don't really consider the "boho" trends of last summer to be that bohemian- so yes, i would say i will continue to like this, maybe forever.

Espadrille: mm- if they are flat. I despise heels or wedges that are too high. I like the pricey ones, but like said, i'm hesitant to pay for something that i'd be scared would rot after one summer in the city.

The white shirt: I've been looking for a slouchy ralph lauren soft white button down for forever- if i find it, yes.

Woven accesories: i dont know- maybe to the beach or in small ways.

Crochet: probably not.

Skinny Jeans: yea, they're addictive- i'm not even that small but i'm so sick of all my flared jeans.

Leggings: no way. not for me.

Bubble skirt: probably not, unless its a really really awesome dress.

Drapey tops: yea, love- hard to find great ones though.

Feminine details: eh, as long as its not super girly

Waist accentuating belts: yea- love this look! hard to find small waists- i like skinnier belts for waists better.

The platform: prob not- i'm clutzy and have to walk so much in the city

cargo pant: i feel too blah in these- i have a pair i like but hate to wear

Do's:

belted waist - I've always been a bit of a belt addict, so I love this look. I'm glad that belts are workable at the waist and lower on the hips right now. I have to be careful tho, I have a short torso, so if the belt isn't perfect it looks like it is holding up my boobs when I sit down.
bubble skirts - I really like them. I probably won't pay full price for one because I think they'll be short lived. Does anyone else remember when they were really popular for about 5 minutes in 1987?
white shirts - Always a classic. I like my white shirts to have a bit of a safari feel to them.
slouchy trousers - Also a classic, I think they are flattering on a lot of body types.
Platforms - Love them as long as they aren't stripper shoes.
Puffy sleeves - Love a puffy sleeve, I have to be careful that they don't make me look like a linebacker tho.
Nautical - I like red/nave/white color combos, so I'm glad they are easy to find right now.

Don'ts:

espadrilles - Not for me, I just don't like the look. Plus I could never keep them clean in the Seattle rain.
Skinny jeans - I've always preferred a straighter leg to a flared leg, but skinny jeans look re-dic-u-lous on me.
gladiator sandals - I'm just not into them
woven assessories - Not a fan. I think this may be related to my Mom's wicker furniture addiction. It drove me away from all things with that look.
Shorts - I just hate shorts. Skirts are more flattering on most people.

I'm kind of "meh" on cargos, leggings, and crochet. I like them, but they just aren't my thing.

Do:

Bohemian- A litttle bit.

Woven Accessories- I may be interested in a woven bag.

Feminine details- I always love these.

Gladiator inspired- Am wanting a comfy sandal.

Nautical- A look I am wanting to sport and keep in mind while I'm shopping.

Puffy sleeves- I like them but not to the 80's extent. Recent polos I have gotten at AE have the slightest puff. I love it!

Don't do:

Espadrilles- I have not been fond of these yet.

White shirt- Not if I'm not working. I don't like being reminded of work.

Skinny jeans- Never! They make me feel fat when I'm not. Unflattering on me.

Leggings- I think this is one of those looks that 5 years from now we will wonder what we were thinking.

Bubble skirt- Another one of those looks we will laugh about later.

Drapey tops- I like mine fitted.

Short shorts- Too white.

Slouchy pants- Another thing I'm not comfotable in. I like the material to be rather fitting to my ass and thighs.

I won't do the bubble skirt or the gladiator sandals. My legs aren't long and lean enough for the bubble skirt, and my ankles are too large for gladiators. I doubt I'd ever do the waist belt, either, but who knows. I really want to do the short shorts but I'll have to work on getting back some muscle tone after a winter of blah-ness.

On a side note, I have many of the categories you mentioned below. I love white shirts and pants, I have a couple of crocheted tops that are more fitted and sexy, I purchased a butt-load of espadrilles and cork wedges for the summer (including some that look very much like the espy's you posted), I have the leggings and short skirt, and I love drapey/kimono tops.

I'm also looking forward to pulling out my large white bag soon.
