Is your job stressful?
Permalink Closed

I am curious- mine can be really stressful at times so I'd have to say yes in general.  I'm wondering how many other people get stressed by their jobs- answer No if you have a typically stressful job but don't let it effect you.  I'm still working on "leaving the job at work".

I think my job is stressful mainly because of one person who I have to deal with that I can't stand.  So dealing with him everyday stresses me out.

I would consider mine not stressful overall because I am a floral designer and for the most part I enjoy every day at work. There are times, like Valentines Day- when there are just too many orders to fill in such a limited time frame- and my normally unstressful job becomes a nightmare.

Some months are more stressful than others because I manage our tradeshow events & staff as part of my job, and that's always hectic. Regardless, I work like 9-9 every day, which is stressful and tiring, but I am appreciated & rewarded by this company, so it almost balances out. I know that in a couple of years, I will look for a job that allows me to spend more time with my FH. More time at home = a happier me.

Yes.  My job can be extremely stressful.  Not so much because of the tasks themselves but because of the expectations and demands put on me.  I'm also starting to realize that personnel issues are much more stressful and difficult to deal with than any actual assignment.

Also my job is driven by the election calendar, so some months are crazy and other months we're just trying to come up with something to do for 8 hours a day.

Nope, not anymore!
I quit my stressful job / career for my piece of mind.
Now everyone that calls me is pretty happy because they are signing up to do something fun - take a motorcycle driving class!

No. For about a month it was, because we got a new, power-crazy manager and all of our jobs were on the line for the stupidest reasons ev-ah. We all told our GM that we were going to leave if she wasn't transfered or fired... he chose us. I work 24 hours a week at a coffee shop, so, really... how stressful could it be? Everything is great now; my new manager is my friend, and we've worked together for 4 years (I've had issues with her as an assistant manager, but all has been resolved). I was stressed because my GM didn't ask me to be the asst manager, but I talked to him and I have a chance to move up. I'm not sure that I want the responsibility that comes with the position because I go to school full-time, but it's nice to have the option.

I have a feeling that when I enter the real world, I'll be in for a rude awakening, because my superiors won't be as accomadating as my current superiors.

i used to have a really stressful job and work 12 hour days.. eat, sleep, dream work work work work.

now the only stress i have at work, at my new job (not so new any more), is the person-to-person stress at my job. i hate dealing with some people in the office and they create awful situations that stress me out.

I love my job, but it is extremely stressful.  I'm pretty much overworked and need an assistant (might be getting one soon-yay!!) and I really do the job of more than one person.  I also have a lot of deadlines and a lot of different things going on at once.  I design at least 4 pieces of advertising material per day, plan at least 8 events per year (right now I'm working on two different events at one time), do all of my own administrative work (thus the need for an assistant) and do a lot of copywriting and article writing for my company's newsletter and our clients' newsletters.  I'm so busy. I barely have time to eat lunch.  There's also a lot of pressure b/c I have to be at the top of my game creatively all the time (for writing, copywriting and graphic design) and there are just some days when I'm not feeling as creative as others.

So, yes, my job is stressful, but I think I handle it pretty well.  Once in a while I start to feel a little overwhelmed, but I just get up and walk around the office and then come back and start working again.  I would be much less stressed if I had a Marketing Assistant to help me.

Yes. There are so many things you have to be on top of all of the time. It's by far the most stressful job I have ever had. It's much easier this year, though, because I gave up one of my hardest assignments.

ETA: I think the toughest part is that I basically have an audience (a critical one) all day. On some days, when I am sick or tired, I think how nice it would be to have a desk job, or anything I can zone out on. But I have to be "on" all the time, which sucks.

Well, I think both of my jobs are stressful. I'm a full-time mom which is always a little nerve-frazzeling, especially since the little darling just turned 2. Oh, the terrible twos is such an understatement sometimes, but at least it's rewarding.

I'm a part time waitress, which is almost always stressful. Dealing with people and their food is a really trying job sometimes. It's really hard to put on a happy face when you have an especially difficult customer or one that treats you like you're stupid. (Ex: A customer asked me if I was a student. I told him that I'm taking some time off, but yes, I've gone to college. He said,"Oh see, I knew you were a student because not many waitresses use the word 'vicariously' in conversation." WTF?! I was so close to retorting,"Yeah, waitresses can use big words sometimes.")

But on the other hand, I really like most of my customers and co-workers and the money's good, so that's that. BTW, if anyone has seen the movie Waiting , it's the story of my life.

Absolutely.  I work 9 hrs a day and then I have to go home and be a housewife/mommy to 2.  Very demanding.

My current job is stressful only in the sense that it's never done and that I know there's a ton of things that need to be done. However, everyone at work is so genuinely nice and so appreciative of the hard work I do that I enjoy it. I guess that's not really stress then, is it?

My last job was so stressful that it ate away at me...I hadn't been as down in the dumps since I was 15 and aching to leave high school for collge. It was 10 hours of flat out feeling like you were a pile of sh*t as you're being yelled at and constantly being manipulated by the supervisors. All my bosses were pretty petty and self-absorbed too so that didn't help matters.

my current position is a good kind of stressful because I really enjoy what I do.  For example, I physically (as in visit and work in these areas) OH, PA, NJ and DE.  Via phone, I also take care of CT and NY.  Thats a lot of stuff going on!  But like I said, I love what I do, so I don't mind the stress too much.

Sometimes i let it overwhelm me.  but then i just give myself a reality check.  i tend to work a lot on the weekends and nights b/c my office is in my home... thats a problem i am trying to curb.

I voted no, but that is not the whole truth.  My job can get very stressful--I work in a blood bank at a large hospital so when we have lots of surgeries or traumas I could be running around the lab like a chicken with its head cut off all day and it physically exhausts me.  But on a normal fullly staffed day, the pace is steady.  I really like my job so that helps a lot, and I am very good at separating work and home.  Luckily, I never have to take my work home with me.

My job is stressful only because its soul-sucking, tedious work and I despise many of my coworkers.

Yes.  I think stress is pretty relative.  I work for nice people, but being a junior associate at a big law firm is starting to wear on me.  But, I need to hang on for 2 years, so I have at least 7 months left.

My job is very stressful, but I think I am the kind of person that feeds on stress.  If my job weren't stressful, I would hate it.
