Wedding Question for All

I was just wondering how long it took you/ is taking you to plan your wedding? Where are you or are you going to have it (what type of place, hotel, resturant, beach etc...). And for those who are not engaged or married, where do you want to have your wedding?

We were engaged for a year and a half before we got married and I kind of collected ideas for what I wanted during that time, but I don't think I REALLY started planning until six months before the wedding date. We had a small wedding in the garden of a local historical home that was built in the 1700s.

We got engaged in March of 2005 and married in August of 2005. Both of us were in the mind frame of getting married as soon as possible, there was no reason to wait. We lived in seperate states at the time so I think that helped speed up the process. We had a very small wedding, only 40 guests. We got married in Austin at this beautiful old Spanish-style mansion. I miss wedding planning though...it was so much fun for me!

We got engaged in Feb '01 and married in Aug '01.  So it took 6 months of planning on my part.  Luckily, I knew exactly what I wanted.  We got married and had our reception in the grand ballroom at Copley Place in Boston.  The grand ballroom was made up of 3 rooms, so we blocked off one room for the ceremony while the other 2 were being set up for dinner.  After the ceremony, guests had hors d'oeuvres in the atrium while they opened up the 3rd area to the other 2.

We had 25 tables of 8-10 plus the head table, which I had put up on a platform.  I special ordered long white table cloths for each table and lavender organza overlays for each.  I handpainted the bowls for each of the centerpieces so that they'd be custom.  I also rented silver chairs instead of using the hotel's ratty convention chairs.  The dance floor was in the middle of all the tables, and the head table was right in front of the dancefloor.  I had a string and trumpet trio play at the ceremony and during dinner.  Then the dj took over for dancing.

One of our friends said our wedding and food was even better than Jason Giambi's!  Cool!

We took a Caribbean cruise w/ Royal Caribbean.  I'd highly recommend it.  So luxurious!

By the time we actually get married, we will have been engaged for 4 years!  About a year and a half of actual planning though.

Where are you or are you going to have it (what type of place, hotel, resturant, beach etc...).

We're having it at a golf club.  The ceremony will be outside in the rose garden, the cocktail hour also outside in a courtyard, and the reception in a huge permanent tent (complete with chandeliers and the like).  Then we're going to Hawaii for our honeymoon.

I secretly planned my wedding since I graduated from HS, but in reality we planned it in a month. We had to move it up since my dad (who by the way is a co-pastor) felt it was inmoral for a preachers daughter to move w/her fiance before the wedding.  Which worked out cuz 2 weeks later we found out we were 6 weeks preggo.  Anyway, there was not much to plan since I already knew exactly what I wanted.  Everything fell into place, like my dress, I wanted a strapless, simple ball gown and I found it by accident at David's Bridal, I was on my way to pay for another dress and I stopped by a rack full of sample designer gowns, I got an Oleg Cassini gown for $200!

Where are you or are you going to have it (what type of place, hotel, resturant, beach etc...).

I always wanted an outdoor ceremony and there is a historic park in our town that had recently restored their Hall and turned the back into a gorgeous garden.  We got married in November, since wedding season had slowed down, they luckily had an open Saturday.  It was really cold that day so we had the ceremony quickly in the garden and the reception in the newly restored Hall.

ETA: Oh - - and we had to postpone the honeymoon, cuz I was really sick. Now we know it was morning sickness.

engaged Christmas Eve 2003, married June 6, 2004, so just over 6 months. I had to get married during the summer (b/c that's my time off), and I didn't want to wait 1.5 years, so we just did it. It wasn't that difficult, because I wanted a casual, simple ceremony, and June is NOT a popular month to get married here.

We got married at a country club at sunset, with an outside ceremony and indoor reception. It was really hot (100+) during the ceremony, but we both wanted to be married outdoors. It actually wasn't bad, because the wedding coordinator served everyone drinks and kept them in a receiving area until just before the ceremony, so no one was just sitting outside.  I loved the location, because it was green (golf courses are the only green things here, LOL) but the course backed up to this incredible red rock mountain. The reception was in the dining room, which was upstairs and overlooked all the city lights.

Our wedding took one year to plan.  I had everything at a Plantation in New Orleans.

We dated for 2 months(june 03- aug 03) got engaged than married in Feb 14,2004. I planned and put everything together for my wedding. We had it at our church, my brother video taped it for us.I had four bridemaids and a maid of honor, flower girl and ring bearer(my childern). Although my son changed his mind and did not want to walk down the asile. The wedding started at 10 AM and  had a short early reception because we had a long drive ahead of us. We went to  Frederiksberg,Tx than to San Antonio. We stayed at a private bed and breakfast it was so nice and realxing and it had its own little privacy yard.San Antonio we stayed about 5 blocks from the river walk. Lets just say I did not want to come back home.

I knew my husband for 7 months before we got married.....in a quickie Lake Tahoe wedding chapel (he only had 10 days leave from the Navy).  It's not exactly what I dreamed of but I guess since my parents got married at a courthouse I never really cared about having a "real" wedding.  I don't regret not having a big wedding though, it's kind of funny to look back on it.  I got married in a army green Roxy dress and he wore jeans with a button up shirt.

Come to think of it, the lady that we thought was the secretary also married us and then tried to sell us stuff like the videotape and lacy marriage license holder (I had to decline that offer).

The next day, the honeymoon (if that's what we can call it) we driving cross country to Norfolk

DH wanted to get married about three months after we started dating. I wasn't ready quite that quickly. We got engaged after a year of dating and I told him I needed a year to plan the wedding. He said no - said he'd waited a year to be engaged and didn't want to wait another...so we got married after seven months of being engaged.

We are not religious so we had both the ceremony and reception at a resort in Phoenix, AZ. The ceremony was outside in the spring - the resort had lots of greenery and flowers (plus waterfalls!) so we didn't even do flowers for the ceremony.

The reception was indoors in a room upstairs from the ceremony, with balconies and nice views. It was one of the best days of my life. *s*

Nine month - we got engaged May 5 (cinqo de mayo ) and married the following February.

My DH and I live in DC, and we had always wanted to have a destination wedding somewhere warm.  Because my parents moved to AZ, we thought February in Tucson would be fun.  Everyone flew in for a weekend of golf, spa and lounging by the pool.  I remember walking down the aisle and seeing that one friend got so sunburned!  It was the best party weekend ever, complete with fireworks after we cut the cake.

I'm not married or engaged but I will say my dream wedding is eloping to the sunny CA beachy coast and getting married there.  But my family is catholic so that's not really an option unless I secretly do it before the bigger wedding.

I'm not married or engaged...or even dating anyone seriously...however, I've been planning my wedding FOREVER...i'm a little obsessed....but that's my secret...i'm not the wedding/relationship obsessed girl...anyways..

I really want to have my wedding at my church in my hometown, I can't imagine having it anywhere else...except that I really want wedding pictures made on the beach. The only problem is I live in Oklahoma...which is a little bit landlocked. SO I would love to have my big hometown wedding, and then on the honeymoon renew our vows and have wedding photo's taken....is that asking to much?

I even have songs picked out....please don't think i'm crazy....i'm not...i swear...shut up kari, or I'll tell about your seating arrangement...hahahaha

I'm not married or engaged, but I know exactly where I want to have my wedding: the Aldrich Mansion

It's not even two minutes down the road from the house I grew up in... it's perfect. Has anyone ever seen Meet Joe Black? The party scene was filmed here (that's my neighborhood's claim to fame, that Brad Pitt was here. ). My boyfriend (I plan to marry him) used to sneak onto the property to go sledding; my elementary school can be seen from the property. It's a gorgeous place, and it has so much meaning to us.

I'm so sketchy. I'm not married or engaged or dating either but it's all planned out. I will be living in London because I want to go to grad school there. (I would be very surprised if I actually went to that grad school and even more surprised if I actually ended up getting married there, but that's not the point.) We will go to the Justice of the Peace or whatever the British equivalent is, get married, go home and call our parents, and then get on a plane to Morocco where we will honeymoon.

I have even more plans, but I won't get into it cause it's creepy.

We got engaged in June 2004 and married in November 2004. We live in New York and got married at the Chelsea Registry Office in London. (We're both from the U.K. and most of our families are there.) Since the wedding was the day after Guy Fawke's Day, we had fireworks at our reception.

I just looked online for a JP in our area, made an appointment, paid for marriage license and got married a couple weeks later.
