The responses to my last TS post got me thinking. I often dress around a pair of shoes or jewelry (but not handbags, maybe because I don't have that many), instead of dressing around my outfits. Usually the only times I plan around an outfit are when I'm wearing a dress, because I feel like a dress makes more of a statement than separates.
I love shoes that stand out, so often plan my outfits around them. What are your favorite things to plan outfits around? Shoes? Jewelry? Skirts? Bags? Or do you always plan the outfit first and then choose accessories. Am I just weird?

LOL! No, I don't think you're weird, I usually plan (when I do it the night before) around my outfit, then will pick out my jewelry/accessories. I'm like you, not much of a handbag person, so that really doesn't matter. LOL And you DO make some FAB jewelry, I'd be very interested....

I dress around my top. I am not big on jewerly, i am so small, i feel like they make me look goofy. So i normally pick a top that i want to wear and then go from there.
For me I pick out my outfit than shoes and jewlery is last. Oh and the handbag I dont change that often so sometime I feel it does not go with the outfit but Iam lazy when it comes to taking all my junk and putting it in another handbag.
sometimes i dress around shoes... but usually i stand in front of my closet and grab things as they "speak" to me... sometimes i start with shirts and other times i start with bottoms. depends on what kind of mood i am in.

That's what I do also. Or I try to dress around an item that I haven't worn in awhile. Or dress around an accessory that I specifically feel like wearing.
I begin with questions...I seem to ask myself "Dressy or casual"- and then pick out my top first. And sometimes the question is "What have I not worn in awhile, or ever? (this is a problem)." Everything else follows: my pants, shoes, then jewelry. Most of the time I dont wear jewelry- and if I do I take it off as Im walking out the door, because I feel overdone. I need to work on the jewelry thing- I envy people that can accesorise well, it really does finish off an outfit. I have alot of purses, maybe 15, but I only really like apx. 5 of them- alot of them are really big and deep, and It becomes impractical in my daily routine.Fumbling for wallet, keys, etc... I am more liking the medium size purse, I need to get more. It seems like whenever I am shopping for purses I am with my mom, I will pick up a smaller bag and she will say , "thats too small for you" and I will end up buying another large purse.
For the work week I usually start out with a bottom (pants or skirt) since I have more tops than bottoms. Usually I'll pick a top next, but if I have something new (bag, shoes, jewelry) that I haven't worn yet/worn much I will pick the rest of the outfit based on the new purchase.
On the weekends I usually pick my outfit around which bag I want to use.

I came, I saw, I did a little shopping.
I start with either my top or my shoes. Then I mix and match the rest depending on what's clean On very rare occasions, I start with an accessory.
Like today, it's unseasonably warm, so I wanted to wear this:
so I grabbed a pink tank to wear underneath, then picked some pants and shoes to match (flats because I wanted to walk to work in the nice weather), and then, as I walked out the door, I grabbed a pearl necklace. If I were better at accessorizing, I would have added a bracelet.
I have a really weird system. I'll put on the first things that appeal to me and make up an outfit, but usually decide that something else would go better, so I change the top or bottom, and then try to find shoes. Usually when I find shoes, I'll change one half again or both. Then I'll add a bag, and usually that will change the clothing again, and then I add jewelry sometimes. So pretty much, the final choice sort of reflects the original, but it's influenced by a lot of things.

Same here. Today I dressed around shoes because I really wanted to wear my leopard print shoes. Yesterday I dressed around a sweater that I wanted to wear. I always seem to have one thing, whether earrings, necklace, shoes, purse, or article of clothing that I use for inspiration.

Right now I'm dressing around bottoms because my, uh...bottom...is big & I have limited # of pants/ jeans in this size. I used to dress around shoes. Now I dress primarily for comfort & unless I'm going somewhere special I wear flats...i just feel over dressed in Target in my high heels. I have been known to dress around jewelry, but most likely I throw it on at the end. Never ever ever around a bag, although right now I threw all my stuff in my turquoise bag & am carrying it with everything until I decide what it looks good with because I hadn't used it at all in the 2 months since I bought it. That doesn't dictate what clothes I am putting on though.

I usually pick a piece or two that I want to wear that day and then assemble an outfit around that. I might dress around skirts, pants, shoes, and jewelry, but I never dress around bags because I only carry my nicer bags and they're all super-basic. That's just because I'm not a bag person for myself, though I should be since bags don't get ruined by hitting the pavement all the time like shoes.
I'm like zeitgeist in that I tend to dress around bottoms mostly. Or I get oddly fixated on something in my closet and end up frantically trying to figure out the best way to wear it. I'm weird.
Generally, and sadly, accessories usually come last.
Usually I just decide what kind of look I want to have that day. Girly? Preppy? Classic? Casual? Simple? Otherwise, I just pick one item I want to wear, be it a top, shoes, belt, or earrings, and then use that as inspiration for my outfit.

Ditto to this. I don't specifically dress around the same thing all the time, but I generally, I'll decide that I want to wear a pair of earrings, a certain top or pair of shoes and then I use that as a jumping off point. Rarely, do I dress around a handbag. I'm just not a handbag person at all.
Usually shirts. I feel kind of bottom-heavy a lot of the time so I don't have many exciting skirts or pants. I'd rather the focus be on the top. However, if I just bought a new skirt or pant, jewelry, or bag, I will dress around that.
