oh lord have mercy! the funniest headline in the news ever "cheney accidentally shoots man". my first thought was "hmm, i really thought that they were going to poison W, shooting seems a bit obvious", but nope, wasn't W, just some random hunting buddy. here's the article:

Cheney shoots man on hunting trip in Texas
Man wounded in accidental shooting said to be ‘alert and doing fine’

BREAKING NEWS
Updated: 3:59 p.m. ET Feb. 12, 2006

WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot and injured a man during a weekend quail hunting trip in Texas, his spokeswoman said Sunday.

Harry Whittington, 78, was “alert and doing fine” after Cheney sprayed Whittington with shotgun pellets on Saturday at the Armstrong Ranch in south Texas, said property owner Katharine Armstrong.

Armstrong said Cheney turned to shoot a bird and accidentally hit Whittington. She said Whittington was taken to Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

The guy he shot is from Austin so all over the local news are teasers like, "Vice President Cheney shoots prominent Austin lawyer..." bwahahahahaha!!! Hilarious. At first I thought it was something serious but then I realized it was a hunting thing. Stupid Cheney.

The late shows are going to have a field day with this. My favorite comment so far: "who let grandpa out with the gun?"

I also like how all the TV news stations are calling it a "mishap." A mishap is when you put on too much self-tanner. Not when you get shot in the neck!

On a Debbie Downer note, though, I feel like this semi-sensational incident is obscuring a bigger deal, which is his involvement in the CIA leak. But oh, well. I wonder what other countries think of our hapless administrators?

I totally agree.  I always think that the timing on these types of things in this administration has been quite umm...curious.

Anyway, I heard Scott McClellan's press conference was quite funny, but I haven't been able to find it online yet.

Did anyone else hear that the ambulance - which follows around Cheney every where he goes- was there to take him to the hospital immediately.

-This man has an ambulance on staff at all times.

Also, I heard that he is being fined as well.  Good!  He's not above the law.

In case y'all didn't know the guy he shot had a heart attack today. Don't know much more than that but I saw the headline on Yahoo. It'll really suck if that guy dies. Suck for Cheney, that is. (Oh and the guy's family. I'm such an insensitive oaf!)

The man who Cheney shot had a mild heart attack, due to a pellet being lodged in his heart.  The BBC says his life isn't in danger.  But it's still awful.  I wonder if he'll sue Cheney.

The Daily Show spent two segments on this last night. It was soooooooooooooooooo funny. At one point, the "correspondent" just kept repeating "The vice president SHOT A MAN IN THE FACE...." and every time he said it it was funnier and I'm cracking up all over again now...

ABC news posted some of the comedians comments... I copied them below (Craig Ferguson's are the best IMO). Oh, and here's good ol' Jeb trying to be funny about the whole thing: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060214/ap_on_go_pr_wh/cheney_hunting _accident;_ylt=AghB8g3OmH1X9Y2HDJaMr.UGw_IE;_ylu=X3oDMTA4NGRzMjRtBHNlY wMxNjk5

Late Show with David Letterman," CBS:

"Good news, ladies and gentlemen, we have finally located weapons of mass destruction: It's Dick Cheney."

"But here is the sad part before the trip Donald Rumsfeld had denied the guy's request for body armor."

"We can't get Bin Laden, but we nailed a 78-year-old attorney."

"The guy who got gunned down, he is a Republican lawyer and a big Republican donor and fortunately the buck shot was deflected by wads of laundered cash. So he's fine. He took a little in the wallet."

"The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," NBC:

"Although it is beautiful here in California, the weather back East has been atrocious. There was so much snow in Washington, D.C., Dick Cheney accidentally shot a fat guy thinking it was a polar bear.

"That's the big story over the weekend. … Dick Cheney accidentally shot a fellow hunter, a 78-year-old lawyer. In fact, when people found out he shot a lawyer, his popularity is now at 92 percent."

"I think Cheney is starting to lose it. After he shot the guy he screamed, 'Anyone else want to call domestic wire tapping illegal?'"

"Dick Cheney is capitalizing on this for Valentine's Day. It's the new Dick Cheney cologne. It's called Duck!"

"The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," Comedy Central:

"Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot a man during a quail hunt … making 78-year-old Harry Whittington the first person shot by a sitting veep since Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton, of course, (was) shot in a duel with Aaron Burr over issues of honor, integrity and political maneuvering. Whittington? Mistaken for a bird."

"Now, this story certainly has its humorous aspects. … But it also raises a serious issue, one which I feel very strongly about. … moms, dads, if you're watching right now, I can't emphasize this enough: Do not let your kids go on hunting trips with the vice president. I don't care what kind of lucrative contracts they're trying to land, or energy regulations they're trying to get lifted it's just not worth it."

"Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," CBS:

"He is a lawyer and he got shot in the face. But he's a lawyer, he can use his other face. He'll be all right."

"You can understand why this lawyer fellow let his guard down, because if you're out hunting with a politician, you think, 'If I'm going to get it, it's going to be in the back.' "

"The big scandal apparently is that they didn't release the news for 18 hours. I don't think that's a scandal at all. I'm quite pleased about that. Finally there's a secret the vice president's office can keep."

"Apparently the reason they didn't release the information right away is they said we had to get the facts right. That's never stopped them in the past."

He won't be fined, he'll be cited.

Evidently not having the correct stamp on his permit, does not carry a real fee. In the end, he's not in "trouble".

RATS!
