If I had a good voice, I'd want to sing "Don't Stop Believin'" at some point on the show. For a tryout, maybe "On My Own" from Les Miserables? I don't watch the show so I'm not sure what kind of choices people make for the tryout.
Ohh I love "A Song for You" by Donny Hathaway. Did you see Christina Aguillera sing it on the Grammy's this week?
I didn't see that. Was it good? I just think it is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Alvin Ailey ballet company has a scene where one male dances to this song--it is perfection.

i have a huge list of songs that i would sing. i will narrow it down a bit thoughfor you.
somewhere by barbara streisand, because it is an incredibly difficult song to sing and if i had a decent voice, i think it would impress the judges.
piece of my heart by janis joplin
bathwater by no doubt
the truth about me by dance hall crashers, that song totaly describes simon so i would have to sing it for him. the corus goes "hey, i like to hear my self talk, i'm my own favorite audience, cause i'm the funniest person i know, if you were me i'm sure you'd agree..."
one of my karaoke specialties: Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love, Annie Lennox's Sweet Dreams, or Janis Joplin's Mercedes Benz
Ah! One of my choices - Mercedes Benz by Janis Joplin. That's sooo my theme song. But then I met a boy. And he drove a Mercedes. And (hopefully) we'll live happily ever after.
My karaoke specialities are: 9 to 5 by Madonna and Not Yet A Woman by Brit. Oh yes. But if I had to choose, I'd sing Cradle and All by Ani Difranco.
Or I suppose I could go with my high school musical audtion songs, my favorite being King of New York from Newsies. (I kid you not. Hugely popular in high school? I think so. )
