Sooo, I've been waking up feeling simply AWFUL, and my skin is completely dried up. I was thinking maybe I need a humidifier. Instead of buying one, can I just leave some water to simmer on the stove while I sleep?
Sorry if this question is painfully stupid...but if I don't have to buy one I don't want to....
Leaving the stove on all night doesn't sound like a good idea. I know some people put bowls of water under or on top of their radiators but it's probably just best to buy a humidifier. You can probably find one for under $40. They might even be on sale this late in the season. Just be sure to keep it clean so that it doesn't become a haven for bacteria. They have humidifiers with special features that prevent bacterial growth but those can be expensive.
We bought one for $30 at Target - actually, it was a double box so we got 2 for $30. I would get one with a filter, and we've found that our 1-gallon ones will run for a full 24 hours on high without having to be refilled. The ones that come without filters are nice because you never have to replace filters (which you'd only have to do once or twice a year anyway), but they grow bacteria like crazy because they actually boil the water and let the steam rise - our friend has one and had to clean it daily.

Don't leave the stove on all night. Instead, put a cup of water in front of the register. It's much safer. I would recommend buying a humidifier. You'll use it forever. Plus, you can get a good one for not a lot of cash. I bought one for $60 at BBB, and it covers 1400 sq. ft.
Yeah...I should get one. My heater is actually above my head so I can't put water up there. Thanks for the advice girls, I never thought I would need one until this year...and now I don't think I can do without!
PS~ I totally know what you mean about the humming! My old computer would hum, and now that I have a lap top I can't sleep at night!
