any suggestions on things to do in colorado that are in denver or driving distance of 3 hours tops? my friend and i are going to visit our old college friend, a self proclaimed "ski bum", so we'll be going skiing. other suggestions?? i've NEVER been out west and i'm so excited. i love mountains. Any colorado girls here? or any shopping suggestions for cool local stuff (doesn't have to be a boutique with awesome labels, i have all i want of that in nyc)
Me me me! Lisa is too and has been around here longer than I have, so she might have some good suggestions for you to. Haven't seen here on the board much, so you might want to PM her.
If you're staying in town, I'd suggest going to LoDo (aka lower downtown). The 16th street mall bisects it, and on that street there's a place called Lucky Strike (bowling/sports bar/great food), Rock Bottom Brewery (there's a garage under this restaurant - if you go up in the elevator and walk through to the front of the place like you ate there, you can get a free parking token. Garage entrance is on Curtis just east of 16th), McMenamins (18th and Wazee - has a great $2 menu for apps until 4 and after 10), Tryst (IIRC on 15th btwn Arapahoe and Lawrence, upscale, pretentious, good people watching), The Wynkoop (18th and Wynkoop, great food, comedy club downstairs, bar and pool upstairs).
Here's a map of LoDo (the star is Rock Bottom)
Cherry Creek is a nice area (I live maybe 3 miles east of there) - shopping and lots of cute boutiques and resaurants.
There are a few high-end consignment places on 6th Ave - One of them gets alot of their stuff directly from Saks and Neimans.
You could tour a brewery - there's something like 6 different ones within an hours drive of the city.
You might also want to consider trying snowshoeing - lots of places in the foothills, all within an hour of the city.
I'll edit if I think of anything else specific .

I've never been to Denver, but my best friend is from Colorado Springs. He always talks about Casa Bonita in Denver. He describes it as "the Disneyland of Mexican food." I'm obviously dying to go.
