I can't believe no one has brought up the sonia kashiuk brand yet!
i used to be in the beauty industry and so i've had all kinds of expensive brushes - all the mac, aveda, trish, etc ...
trish is the best but sonia definitely the next best ... and MUCH MUCH cheaper - they only sell them at target
but by the way, the eyeliner brush and the angled contour brush are the two best brushes in my collections - i LOVE THEM and haven't found anything better!
If you want to be spendy, half my makeup brushes are from Valerie Beverly Hills (www.valeriebeverlyhills.com). They are NICE, but they are not cheap...the squirrel kabuki brush that I use for apllying blush is $56. No quality issues...the bristles are soft and do a great job. I also have my eyeshadow brush and my eyeline brush from them.
I will second the Sonia Kashuk too...my concealer brush is from SK and it's pretty awesome for $3.95.
i love my laura mercier ones. it was a toss up between trish and laura and i went with laura because she has wooden handles and the brushes are balanced, like a painters brush- where trish's are -not plastic maybe acrylic? and i didn't like that they weren't balanced. they felt heavy in my hand...
totally personal preference. i would go out there and play around with different brush sets and see which one strikes your fancy!

I LOVE my Sonia Kashuk brushes. I have the set -- best $20 I ever spent!

I buy my brushes from all over. I like to buy them individually as opposed to brand because I've found that certain brushes are better than others...cheap and expensive.
I like the Sonia Kashuk line more than I thought I would. They seem to be nice quality, especially for the price. If you tend to be lazy about cleaning your brushes, I recommend this line because for the price, you can just replace them whenever.
My recommendation is not to get suckered into buying a whole set of pricey brushes at once. Go to each makeup counter and try each one. Personally, I don't even use all the brushes in the expensive set that I have. If you happen to find brand that works for you, go and buy the set. Good luck!
Trish MvEvoy for sure!!! I love them just because they feel the best on my face. If you go around to all the counters and play with them all you'll see.
Thanks for the help girls! I think I'm going to pick up a sonia kashuk brush from Target and give it a try, but I'm sure I'll be visiting Trish very soon as well...
