Where do you gals most enjoy going for a quick trip?

DH and I can't afford a full length vacay right now (not to mention he can't miss that much work at once) so we're thinking of taking a couple long 4-dayish weekends like in April and maybe late summer/fall.  Obviously it's gotta be somewhere close enough that we don't spend the entire time traveling, but this does seem like a good opportunity to see some places in the US/Canada we haven't been before.  Suggestions?

ETA: we live in Atlanta, but west coast is not out of the question, depending on flight times we could prob swing it.

yeah, where will you be starting from?

from LA, i like to go to palm desert a lot.  i also like san francisco, napa/sonoma valleys, santa barbara and santa ynez wine country, las vegas (for a girls' weekend).  all of those are definitely places you wouldn't feel like you missed out on anything in 4 days.

What about Toronto? I've never been (even though one of my best friends lives there) but everyone I know who has been raves about it. It's only an hour-long flight from NYC so it can't be much longer from ATL.

Also the NYTimes has a column called Escapes which is supposed to be about 36 hours in different cities. You might have to register to read them, but it's free.

I am in Atlanta too and we take little trips all the time:
Driving: to Savannah, Hilton Head, Charleston and I am thinking of going to Nashville soon.

Flying: Chicago, NYC, Boston, Palm Beach, Naples, etc...

What do you both like in quick trips, leisure, great dining, activities?
