since elle posted that book in the birth control thread it got me thinking about other books out there about the lovely parts that we, as women, own. i love reading about this stuff and would love to hear about any other books out there...what are your fave books about women?
so.. my additions are:
(DUH!) Our Bodies, Our Selves by the Boston Women's Health Collective. this is totally a no-brainer of the number one book all women should own. my mom actually gave my sisters and i (i have four sisters) a copy when we move out of the house.
Woman in the Body by Emily Martin. this book is so fascinating, all about how women are painted as soft, weak, etc and how that gets transferred over to all things, even science. there are lots of interesting things about reproductive health and science and society's view of such.
Where Women Have No Doctor by A. August Burns et al. this book is actually a continuation of the book Where There Is No Doctor. both are fantastic books to have on hand to consult about sicknesses and normal bodily processes.
Egalia's Daughters by Gerd Brantenberg. this is a satire of the sexes and is fantastic. a totally flip of men and women and thier roles. not really about science or anything but i wanted to throw it in anyway cause it's so good and so thought-provoking.

So. Freaking. Awesome. Debunks alot of myths that we are told about our bodies and the way they work. Also talks about charting, which is not the same as the rythm method as many docs would like to think, and how effective it can be not only for preventing or achieving pregnancy, but also as a general tool useful for understanding what's normalfor your body. Very empowering.
