I want to scream right now!!! This is such a monopoly!! Well, we signed up for Comcast digital cable when we moved into our place and the whole thing was just horrible from the beginning. First they sent over some 13 year old to hook it up and he had no idea what he was doing, so my husband ended up having to do it. Then he forgot to call in our # or something so we didn't actually have cable for 3 days, not the 3 hours as promised. Well, fast forward to a month ago when we were hard up for cash and didn't pay the bill. Hubby just disconnected the comcast and we have regular cable, so I just kind of forgot about the bill. They called 2 days ago and said if we don't pay someone will come and disconnect it. Well, we still don't have much $ so I told hubby to just ask for basic cable from now on. They told him that we still have the sign up rate of $29 a month and that if we get BASIC CABLE it will be $45 a month!!! So I just said FINE, stay with digital and we will figure it out later. Well, they were supposed to turn it back on when we paid over the phone, but the next day they came and DISCONNECTED IT!!! So hubby had to call again and this time they told him that since they disconnected it we could no longer get the special rate so digital will be $79 a month!! And basic cable $45!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???????
I've never really had any gripes about Comcast's service, however, I think they are a huge ripoff AND they just raised prices again. That really pisses me off. It seems like our bill goes up twice a year.
And their prices are different depending on where you are - FWIW, we pay $25 a month for basic cable. We were on the 6-month promotion for $20 a month for dig. cable, but it expired so we backed it down. We wouldn't even have the basic, but you get NO channels if you just plug your TV into the wall here - not even local news stations .
And, their CS techs have NO. FREAKING. CLUE. about their products or how to fix them when something goes wrong. I can't even tell you how many hours we've been on the phone with them, being bounced from person to person ....

Oh, I hate, hate, hate Comcast. I had them where I lived before and they are the worst- when a comcast sales person came to my door when I moved to a new place, I was ready to get the garlic out! When I moved and compared prices, it turned out directv, with tivo, was going to be cheaper each year than comcast (because directv had some special going on that lasted for 12 months- comcast would have only been cheaper for like three months of the deal, but over the course of the year, it wouldn't be!). I bundled it with phone and internet services from Qwest and pay about $36 a month for my tv, tivo, etc.
Oh my god. I thought I was the only one who called Comcast a Monopoly! The price of cable is absolutely ridiculous! And it sucks, because they have control over the cable lines!
I once called Comcast and told them I wanted to cancel service because I was paying $20 more a month than I had signed up for. I was transferred to a man who told me he was in the business of keeping customers, not losing them. He asked me what he could do to make me happy. I told him I wanted to pay what I was originally quoted. So he lowered the price to what it was originally for six months. It wasn't a perfect solution by any means, but it helped. Just thought I'd share.
