my BF bought me the Laura Mercier Master Brush Set for Christmas. Today, I washed my brushes with mild baby shampoo and reshaped them and laid them on a paper towel to dry. The same way I have treated my NARS brushes, Smashbox brushes and MAC brushes.
MY LAURA MERCIER BRUSHES STINK OF MOTHBALLS!!!!!!!!! WTF????????
any ideas on this one????????? should i take them back to Nordstroms and ask them what the hell is up with the Laura Mercier brushes stinking of mothballs?????????
it is so weird that until i washed them, they smelled fine. and i noticed the acrylic one that i use to put on concealer smelled fine. it was the natural brush ones that smelled like moth balls.
the LM makeup girl at Bendel's is fantastic and does my makeup periodically for me. I am going to call her about it today b/c i trust her and know her vs. the LM girl at Nordstroms.
I'll report back as to what she says is up with the mothball smell!
Are they still wet? Or did they dry and still stink?
If they are still wet or even slightly damp, I wouldn't worry yet. Natural fibers, depending on what they are made from, can smell pretty icky when wet.

they were dry this morning and still smelled of mothballs. not as bad as when wet, but definitely smelled. i am trying to get through to the LM girl right now...
called my LM girl, Stacy. She told me to rewash them using either LM brush wash or Trish McEvoy's brush wash (she suggested TM's b/c it is cheaper) and see if they still smell. If so, then she suggested taking them back to Nordstroms for an exchange.
she has never ever heard of LM's brushes doing this!!! she had no idea other than the type of cleanser i used on what caused this issue...
Hmm, well that's stupid to have to buy a certain brand's brush cleanser, baby shampoo works just as well. I would ask the counter to give you a sample of it, instead of having to purchase it. But, that's just me. Plus, the type of cleanser may not even be the problem, so why purchase something you don't necessarily need. I'm curious to find out the end result, so keep us updated!
