I'm just curious what is the most you've ever paid for a fashion item and how old you were (rough estimate is fine )? I ask because I'm in my early 20s and now have a steady job with a decent income...and I've started looking at much pricier, designer items (specifically purses - MJ, Chanel, Gucci, LV, etc.). I save money, am slowly paying off my car and student loans, investing in 401k, and no cc debt (I never buy anything i don't have the cash for)...yet, sometimes I feel guilty about splurging on such $$$ items especially at such a young age.
I am 24, and my only real fashion "investment" piece is a LV Speedy 30 ($560 before tax) I bought as a reward for myself 6 months after landing my first "real" job. I felt that I might as well get in now and enjoy it for that many more years than wait till I'm older, since it's a classic bag.
ETA: I was 23 when I bought the LV bag.

I came, I saw, I did a little shopping.
Well, my most expensive item to date is my Gucci Horsebit...$1420 for it, and I just bought it, so age 26 . Before that, it was my LV Speedy 30 at age 25, last August.
ohhh. this is sorta sad. the most that i ever paid for something was my pair of adidas trainers that were $75 which was just a couple of months ago. but the most expensive thing that i own is my nice jcrew wool coat that my mom bought for me ($200 or so) about five years ago.

It's sad, but I have a hard time spending $$ on myself. I'll drop a few hundred on somebody else for holiday/b-day with no problem, but struggle when it comes to shopping for me. Plus I'm a TOTAL bargain shopper. I guess the most I've spent on myself was $112 for a coat from BR - which was a steal ;)
I am 25, and I actually just made my most expensive purchase, $700 for a Marc Jacobs Adina bag. Before that, my first big purchase was a LV Vernis pochette for about $350.
17 yrs. old--brown Mitzi Baker bag @ ~ $200 with tax and shipping. But it was so worth it because it's a beautiful bag I can carry forever. Plus I saved up the money to make a nice bag purchase---planning to make another in the next year.

I'm not a good example. My Chanel Sunglasses ($220), Moschino jeans purse ($230), and Eugenia Kim shoes ($300) are the most expensive things I own. I bought them all when I was 19, but I have a bit of cc debt on my hands.
i guess my mackage coat for around $420 (was $580 full price). But strangely- it feels not expensive at all since i wear it every single day, probably one of my best purchases ever. I have a few pairs of $200-$300 shoes, some get worn some don't- and i consider that more of a waste, definitely. I have a couple of $200-$400 bags, but they're fairly classic. I'm 22- i plot out my pricier purchases very carefully and almost always try to find deals. I probably have a lot of expensive clothing, i just don't realize it because i usually dont pay full price.
I feel sorta cheap too - my most expensive purchase was this year (I'm 27) when I purchased my frye phoenix boots. I have no regrets though because I wear them frequently and they should last a lot longer than the cheapie boots I've purchased previously.
my most expensive item to date was a bag... but a roll bag for work b/c i travel just about every week. i got a tumi and it was $450 and i was 25 when i bought it.
but as for true fashion items... my Isabella Fiore Audra bag at $385 or my Bulga at $380 are my most expensive and both of those were bought when i was 25 too!
This isn't the right answer, but it's my honest-to-goodness most expensive fashion item: my prom dress. It cost $365, and I was 17.
I do have answers more relevent to this thread, though. My most expenive purchases have been a pink/black tweed, knee length coat for $200 and my Coach Samantha sunglasses for $168, both purchased last year when I was 19.
my most expensive purchase was my mackage coat. after the discount it was a little under $500. this was a purchase that i thought about for more than a year, so i'm comfortable with the price, and i've worn it enough to justify the expense.
however for the most part, i'm so/so on really pricey items. the mark up on clothes is so ridiculous it makes me wonder. for example i got this sweater at a sample sale for $70 (if i'd bought 3 it would have been $50) however it's currently being sold at blush for $264. that's more than a 300% markup, and i know they made a profit when they sold it to me. this sort of thing makes me think b/f shelling out a lot of money for stuff.
but at the same time, i fully support buying what makes you happy, so shop on.
Last year at 19, I bought the speedy for $540 before tax. It was/still is well worth the money. It has started a LV addiction though-I've bought two items since then!
