help with mellow music
Permalink Closed

I normally listen to rock/punk/metal but I like just about everything. I want to start listening to mellow music that I can play to calm the baby later (so it will be remembered from the womb). I've already downloaded and listened to the new James Blunt and David Gray albums and I love both of them. Does anyone else have any other suggestions? Thanks!

The Cinema Paradiso soundtrack is my favorite CD of all time. It's all instrumental though. What about Enya? I had a teacher who used to play it during tests & it's very calming.

I know John Mayer is old news, but he is my ultimate mellow music.  If you haven't listened to him I recommend him!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I actually have everything suggested (with the exception of the instumental halleybird rec'd) but I'd forgotten about all of it. I guess my CD's have become kind of obsolete after iPod/iTunes and XM radio

I'm going to check out HB's rec and dig out the rest of the stuff suggested. Thanks ladies!

Some of my favorite mellow music includes Howie Day, Belle & Sebastian, Dido, The Cardigans, Death Cab for Cutie, and The Postal Service. I don't know anything about babies at all so I'm not sure if these are the right kind of mellow, but I think definitely some of them might be!

One of my all time favorite songs is "Asleep on a Sunbeam" by Belle & Sebastian and that's *definitely* soothing and mellow I think, so if you want to check them out I'd try that first!

HTH!

My new obsession is Ray Lamontagne- he is absolutely fantastic!  I also second the Damien Rice suggestion....

the life as a house soundtrack...i love it.

i used to listen to nine inch nails of all things...a warm place (on repeat to fall alsleep).  it's funny cuz right when the u.s. went to war, i was watching cnn, and they were showing something on tv, and i was half watching, well all of a sudden i heard this song, and i looked at the tv and couldn't believe that i was listening to nine inch nails on cnn!  it's so uncharacteristally NIN (in a good way).

buddha bar cds.

Sigur Rós, particularily Staralfur, Njósnavelin, Vaka, and Viðrar vel til Loftárása. These are my faaavourite songs, I used to drive with them on so I never got road rage. Bwahah.
