Lately I have had such problems finding tops that flatter me. Anyone else have a large top ( d- cup) and small waist and have the same problem? It either is too tight in the chest and fits in the waist, too hoochie looking for me to even consider, or fits in the chest and leaves a balloon effect where the waist should be.? If you have this problem please post pics and ideas of what you have found to be most fitting for your figure- I would be so grateful... thanks girls..
Ugh I have no solution but I have the same problem I have D border line DD's and a 28 inch waist. Nothing fits right. I look pregnant in all these empire waist top that are out now.

Thank god I'm not the only one with this problem. I am the same way Collette and think the same thing every time I'm in the dressing rooms trying stuff on. The worst right now is I try on tops and the stomach and shoulder areas are too big but the damn boob area is too small and I'm pouring out of the tops.
Oh what do yall do about the ones that are suppose to go under your boobs? You know tops like this:
I'm talking about the faint line right below the criss cross. Tops like this usually cut my boobs into a 3/4 above and 1/4 below the line. Do yall just go with it and wear it like that or do you avoid it? I've been finding this quite a bit lately.
I feel your pain. I found a really pretty black satin wrap top from www.lewischo.com that addresses the problem. Since it's a wrap, there's room to tighten the waist and room for my chest. I have also had good luck with the wrap tops at Anthro. Milly also makes tops that are cut for a fuller chest. I've found their tops on sale at Loehmann's. The same goes for Shoshanna and Tahari. What has worked for you all?

lsubatgirl, I always love these kind of tops, but they never look flattering on my chest- I feel the like the line cutting my boobs in half makes the top look weird and, on the rare occasion where the top doesn't cut my boobs in half, I feel like the seam under my chest just makes it look more ginormous....
Sorry, I know this isn't much help, but, overall, I do find v-necks to look most flattering, wraps can be okay and, in general, anything that has a little stretch can work. Sorry, I know these are pretty obvious answers... I'm still in search for tops that fit my chest correctly... especially button downs- I hate when a top fits everywhere but gapes across the chest!
lsubatgirl, I HATE these types of tops with a passion. Therefore I refuse to buy them. My boobs deserve more than to be cut off by an evil line like that!
A lot of the Sweet Pea tops that have a faux wrap styling actually do look good and the seams separating the chest from the rest of the shirt do tend to fall below the boob line. Otherwise, I stick to tops with some stretch and wear camisoles underneath deep v-necks.
I have been tempted to buy Rebecca and Drew button-downs becuase they're sized by bra-cup, but I can't fathom the idea of spending $100+ on a freaking button down. I think lsubatgirl recommended one of the BR button down styles that actually worked remarbably well on D-cups.
Oh, for button downs - I've given up. Except that I buy cheaper ones - like J Crew or Gap on sale in a size too big. As long as it fits through the chest, it's really easy to get the waist taken in to avoid the gaps. It costs about 15 bucks per shirt in LA. Expensive if you don't wear button downs a lot, but it's worth it for me, since I need to wear suits for work a decent amount.
my friend was a double d and like a size 4. she said the only place she could ever buy button downs was Express. i say "was" because she got a breast reduction- not sure her size now, maybe a large C?
anyway, she wore a lot of t-shirts that had a not so deep vneck. she didn't wear anything empire ever. she wore a lot of fitted things- nothing that blousoned out from the chest.
lilykind I had forgotten about sweet pea tops. Those do work pretty well.
This past summer Banana had some button downs that were either 4 or 5 button (med sized buttons) that worked really well for me. They didn't bulge out or anything. I haven't tried the new ones that are out but some are on sale and I finally got $20 in rewards from them. I'll have to at least try one on and post a review here.
Yes, I do have a couple of button shirts from both BR and Express- but, both are not the greatest fit- I do wear them though. I did see that Br now has a new version button down that is for a larger cup size that I have yet to try. I also steer clear of the line under the bust tops, that are actually the line thru the bust top on me, definately not the look Im looking for.

I will look into the suggestions you made. Thanks for sharing.

I avoid it. *Some* tops have the line low enough where it doesn't cut me in the middle of the boobs. There's a store I like called Janeville that tends to have wrap-style tops with a low line thing that works on me.
But yes, I have the same problem where I have to get tops to fit my boobs and then the stomach is too loose.

Same problem here!!! I have just invested in a lot of camis. I buy button down shirts and they will only button till right under my boobs. I just wear them like that with a cami underneath and cute neclace. I do the same thing with button front or sip front sweaters. I used to wear v neck shirts a lot, but I always feel that even if a little of my cleavage is showing I look slutty. I can't stand it!! I have thought about a breast reduction but hubby won't go for that. I don't have back pains or anything but I just think they're such a pain. Ever since I got my boobs in about 7th grade, trying to buy bras or bathing suits or fancy dresses usually ends up with me in tears.
I used to do well at Express, but now I think almost all my wardrobe is from New York and Company. Great prices, really cute stuff, everything fits well (it's not all made for size 0 twigs like some places). I have really good luck there and I love their accessories. I also feel like they have a good mix of everyday stuff, work stuff, and going out stuff. I can't get enough of the place. Here is the website and despite the size 2, 6 foot girls they have modeling the stuff, the clothes are made for real people and are so cute.
