I just made it so my three magazine subscriptions (Allure, Lucky, and Nylon) won't renew in February. I haven't been without Lucky magazine for probably 12 years or so (with a couple offs and ons throughout). As much as it pains me to cancel hardcopy magazine subscriptions, these titles just don't speak to me anymore. Really, no magazines do at this time. Allure is the best out of all of them (I'm more of a product girl than a fashion girl), but it's still not enough to get me to stick with them.
I finally quit getting Vogue, after 20+ years. I've never bought one thing from Vogue, and the people they feature aren't aspirational to me. I do get Bazaar, only because I get a free subscription from my recycling company Currently I get Oprah (free, again from recycling company) and Oprah has some nice fashions. I get Vanity Fair, Lucky, and the Sunday NYTimes, with its fashion and style magazines every season. Lucky is way too young for me, but I can see the trends and adjust for my age. I'm still surprised by some of the prices in Lucky, they seem awfully high, but I'm not on a coast, maybe it's different in LA or NY. I also get my fashion ideas from some of the apparel catalogues, and my jewelry craft books.
I get more magazines than I can read through my work or because I had to buy some subscriptions from my little cousin for his school. In fact, this weekend I just recycled a pile of them that I never even got around to reading from Fall. Quite honestly, other than People Style Watch, Cooking Light and Food & Wine, there aren't any magazines that I get excited about anymore.
I like how People Style Watch is laid out. It's a quick read, but that's what I'm looking for from a fashion magazine right now. I used to like In Style, but lately it's just gotten very formulaic (maybe it's always been that way and I've just noticed it.)
I used to love Lucky, but in the last few years, it's just gotten very ridiculous. I don't find their photo spreads editorial (to borrow a Nina Garcia phrase) at all. they just seem like an effort to get as many items on a page as possible.
