Highly recommend this book.

It's a book about personal style done in the most intelligent way possible. It doesn't just tell you how to dress. It tells you how to think about yourself and your style and apply it truthfully, with dignity, to your appearance, your everyday wardrobe choices and purchases.

It makes you dig in to some possibly sensitive subjects. But, if you can work through them and come out the other side, I think you'll find it rewarding.

It's relatively hard to find, but you can get it from Amazon from different, individual sellers.

Buy it new because previous owners may have written in it.

10 Steps to Fashion Freedom by Malcolm Levene and Kate Mayfield

He's on Twitter too.

* acutally, I think this book can help get to the point where you can do what RelRel suggested. *

I stopped fighting my natural fashion desires and dress how I want to dress. The only thing I changed is to try to take more pride more often. I have a tendency to look a little sloppy and casual sometimes. I'm still comfortable and true to my style  -- just more polished.

Best wishes!

Last night my son and I attended the choral concert at the high school I graduated from. More than one person remarked that I look exactly the same...despite the 15 years since then. While I get on some level that it's a compliment and that I should feel lucky, quite frankly I'm tired of hearing it. I want that wow factor...the wow you look great...what a change! Now having said all that, I know the one thing that probably most defines me as unchanging is my hair...and that's it's going to remain. I've tried changing it before: color, bangs, no bangs, even drastic cuts...and they all made me miserable. So the hair stays. But...I do want change. I think what I need is to really pick a type of look and tailor my wardrobe better. It's all over the place, from delicate to vintage ~ minimalist to lavishly adorned ~etc... Clearly I'm all over the map! By now most of you are probably familiar with what I look like...so I'm asking for input... Who wants to define me stylewise? Feel free to be creative please...what look should I reinvent myself with?

Can you look at your closet and just kinda gut-reaction pick out what makes you happiest? Or maybe that one, special outfit that you love to wear and do wear all the time?

Sadly no, relrel. For most of my life I've tailored what I wear to who I'll be around that day...sort of a blend in approach. Way to much of the way I dress is a direct reflection of some major insecurities on my part. I'm hoping that a more defined style will not only change my look but also my outlook.

Set yourself up a pinterest board for this specifically. Then take sometime to pin images you like to it. Wait until you have quite a few and then review. I'll bet an overall style will emerge. I was quite surprised when I went through some of mine and realized that I randomly picked a pretty cohesive style for last Spring/Summer and for this past Fall. I wasn't trying to pin things that worked with how I dress, it just happened.

In the meantime, play around with the new colored jeans you just bought. See if making some new outfits out of what you own with the jeans gives you some inspiration.

Oh, I really like the idea of using pinterest for this.

I know you don't want to cut your hair, but have you tried styling it different with the cut you have now? Moving your part to the side or using hot rollers?

Do you wear makeup? Has your makeup routine changed since high school?

Make up is a really good idea if you want an immediate tweak. I recently finally found an eyeliner/smudge that I really like (I usually rarely wear eyeliner let alone smudge it) and it makes me feel, sort of more exotic (?) wearing it right now. It's not a huge investment, but it can make you feel like you've transformed yourself a bit.
