Any ideas? I need some serious help. I need a change and I want to do something fun and challenging. Is there any kind of job that won't require me to have more schooling?
I'm not sure how to go about changing careers... (if that's what I choose to do).
I work in Regulatory Affairs (RA) in the Pharma Industry. A lot of people with JDs work in this field (a woman in my group has a JD). Basically you would act as a liasion between the company and the regulatory agencies (FDA, EMEA, etc.).
Nobody ever knows what RA is when I tell them, but I really love my job. If you want any additional info, I can elaborate....
I can totally see you working at some really cool nonprofit, fighting for civil liberties. You should try the Student Press Law Center! Or you could teach law classes at a comm college. You could also run for Congress.

One of my friends transitioned from practicing law to human resources. The JD was a plus because she was familiar with all the regulations affecting employee rights and what keeps companies from getting sued. I'm totally mangling this, but hopefully you see what I'm getting at. Clearly, I am NOT a lawyer or in HR.
there is so much you can do with a jd and i really think the jd can get you in almost anywhere.
i graduated from law school only 3 years ago, and already several of my friends from law school are not practicing law (or practicing law only peripherally) - one is a life coach (don't ask, but he does really well), one is an investment banker, one is a real estate broker, several are legal headhunters, and one is a law school career counselor.
and the friends that do still practice law do a variety of things other than working for a law firm or for the govt - many work for non-profits (both law related and not), some work in-house, one started his own practice/law firm.
i started at a law firm out of law school and have slowly been moving away from the traditional practice of law. i work in-house right now but will soon start transitiong to a new job only indirectly related to law. pm me if you want to talk more about this - i've been where you are before and have lots of ideas.
a ton! Government and lobbying jobs especially. But really, I think you could do almost anything you want- a JD is a great bargaining and door-opening tool!

omg - are you reading my mind? Those are the types of jobs I went to law school for. If only I knew how to go about it. New Year's Resolution, ya know?
