Boots- with a shirt/sweater that goes that low, it is much like a skirt. I understand what you're saying though. Here's an idea. On your first outing with leggings, go to Walmart. I'm sure once you look around, you'll realize how fabulous you look! lol! It'll get you over your nervousness.

I have 2 pairs from H&M. I still have a hard time wearing them out of the house though. Even though I always wear a long sweater or long cardi & tank, I just feel exposed in them. I wish I could get over that, because I think when done right, the look is just so cute on other women.
I'd love to be able to pull off this look with confidence.
I have a pair by H&M and a pair by Theory I got on sale (the "Elly"). The Theory ones are ponte so they are thicker and in my opinion more flattering. They were $75 with 40% off at lastcall.com but they sold out. Here's the link:
I do think leggings are somewhat of a staple so it's worth it to get a pair that will do well wash after wash, and that you feel fabulous in every time you wear them. I spent more on those but I wear them more & they've held up so I think it was a better value overall.

LOL! That practice should work for just about any fanshiony outfit!
I impulse-bought a package of two black leggings by Anne Klein at Marshall's. I put them on, walked to the next room, sat down, and I saw a hole near the knee. It had snagged! This happened so easily. I am blaming it on the packaging (scratchy plastic hanger) so I can return it. My nails are pretty smooth and I don't have a ring with prongs; I'm confident that I didn't snag them when I put them on.
Do all leggings snag this easily? How do the HUE ones do with regard to snagging?
I don't own any Hue ones, but they do seem very thick when I've seen them in the store. I'm thinking of buying a pair myself because they are more substantial than some of the others out there. I have a pair of H&M leggings from last year that are OK, but not as thick as the Hue I've seen. I don't think any legging should snag easily like that though. They shouldn't be as thin as tights.
I actually wore leggings to work on Friday (very casual office and no clients scheduled for the day.) And I felt adequately dressed (not like I forgot to wear pants.) I think the trick for me is to layer the look. I wore black leggings with brown boots, a long white tank and a long cashmere gray sweater over the tank.
Cool. Thanks for the info. I tried some tops on while I had the leggings on (for like 5 stinkin minutes), and I noticed that I felt much better as long as the top/sweater/whatever cleared the "region." No one wants to see crazy-tight, thin pant-like things on the region! LOL!
Hey everyone. I bought HUE leggings. Two pairs: premium cotton ones with wide waistband and double-knit ones --- both in black. I love them. I'm finishing up my London trip, and they have been perfect! Thank you for the recommendations.
I think now that I figured out how to wear leggings comfortabley, I may ask for a pair of Hue legging for Christmas. Which pair would you say is the heaviest? The cotton or the double knit?
And I hear you on not needing to see anyones "nether regions." I was in Ann Taylor yesterday and the associate had on a pair of leggings and a too short for for leggings top. I had to resist the urge to remind her that leggings are not pants. It did make me wonder if I wanted to shop there.
The double-knit ones have pocket and button accents to make them look more like pants - - which I could take or leave. I think the cotton ones are just fine. If I were to purchase a third pair, I'd get the premium cotton ones.
