My brother and I joined together and got them a digital camera. I also got my dad a really good knife for the kitchen. And I got my mom a book on changing careers.
my sister and i are going all out for my mom. she's getting a cashmere sweater, her favorite perfume, really nice slippers, an Origins gift set, the new diana krall christmas CD, and maybe some other little gift-y things. oh, and an ornament. we give her one every year.
i bought a book on golf for my dad- one of those "worst case scenarios" books. he loves golfing but he's pretty bad. i don't know if i'm going to get him anything else- we're not on great terms right now... (my parents are divorced and i might not even see him on christmas- didn't last year ) ooh, sorry for the buzzkill!
haha, despite my breath-taking graduate loans, I am going all out for my parents this year:
Mom: a beautiful gold-and-pearl heart key chain, a dressy red scarf, a sweatshirt from my new grad school
Dad: (it's also his birthday!) gormet noodles from italy, leather-casmire lined gloves, a gift certificate for a restaurant for when they come visit me, a book on the usefulness of cats (it's a inside joke)
For Dad a 1GB flash drive (he was complaining about not being able to save some of his stuff onto his floppy disks haha I don't think he knows USB flash drives have been invented) and a couple of random other things.
For Mom I usually get her a purse and other accessories because she hates to shop for those kinds of things and always wants me to help her pick them out.
I dont know why I am having so much trouble on deciding what to get my parents this yr!!!
But so far for my mom I only have her B-day present which is on Friday. This calender thing from Hallmark because she has been wanting one after she gave one as a gift but I got her the bigger one.
Ok I cant find the pic but it is like this teacher kind but bigger and it has a frame. Gosh I am terrible at explaining!
But for Christmas I have nooooooo idea! And I am running out of money!!!!
I'm getting my parents tickets to see Blue Man Group.
My dad's friend and his gf just went to see them in Toronto. They were raving about it the next day, and said that the first few rows were given splashsuits to wear!
Dad: Jimi Hendrix; Are You Experienced, The Best of Earth Wind and Fire, The Beatles White Album.
Mom: I think I am telling her I got her nothing, and then suprising her by
taking her to The Keg. (She has been obsessed with wanting to go to The Keg for YEARS. Mom + The Keg = Huge family joke )
I don't have a job so my gifts are a little myeah. Last year my mom got a shopping spree, so I'm normally not this bad!!!
ETA: Well, I found some money, so I bought my mommy a......DIAMOND NECKLACE! Wanted to get her the first one...but they were sold out, so she's getting the second one:

Yeah, I went a few years ago and it was awesome! I'm glad your dad's friends liked it too I hope my parents do!
Two books, one about Ellis Island and the other is the "updated" Profiles in Courage. Her type of reading, both of 'em, and I found them at a great price. Also a Jo-Ann etc. gift card (she is very crafty and loves to go to Jo-Ann), plus cashmere socks - she has a bunch but keeps telling me every year that she needs more, so we're sending some more. And a tee shirt that we picked up in NC a few months ago. It's an inside joke so I won't try to explain it. And of course, some jewelry. *s*
Dad:
A mystery book - compilation of many writers and many different types of mysteries (he loves this stuff). Also body wash from The Body Shop. We get it special for him about twice a year. Dad is allergic to most perfume/scent, so we get the plain body wash and have just a wee bit of the Satsuma (or Natsuma, whatever the heck it's called) essential oil added. He loves it, and they don't have a Body Shop near them, so we always make sure he doesn't run out. Also a B&N gift card. My Dad's favorite thing to do, according to Mom, is to go to either B&N or Home Depot and whip out the GC when he's shopping. He likes to not have to spend the cash...my folks are on a fixed income, so they enjoy GC's like crazy. And some fishing stuff - one of Dad's great joys of being retired is fishing an ungodly amount of time. *s*

My mom this $50 Brighton necklace - no way it's worth it, but she wanted it.
the back side looks like this with red stones
My dad is getting a piece of equipment that he wants for his tractor! I know that doesn't help.
Hubby's dad & stepmom are getting a Whole Foods GC because it just opened in their area & we are putting all kinds of wine & goodies in a basket
Hubby's stepdad is getting a plane ride in a WW2 plane - it's WAY more than we spend on others, but he does a lot for us & we figure we will do one ridiculous present each year. It's fun! http://cavanaughflightmuseum.com/warbird_rides.htm
It's what we are both most excited about - I can't wait to give it to him!

Since I sell Mary Kay, all the women I know are getting an eye kit (makeup remover, eye cream and lash curler). I'm also making both of the 'grandparents' their own album of my son's life...trying to personalize each with shots of them with him and stuff like that. I'll be getting them both a pair of pajamas also.
I know..not much for inspiration...I'm to broke to be creative this year...I'll be holding out till next year! :)

I love that calendar idea for my fiance's mom - she's a teacher. Thanks!
My mom is easy - she made a list of DVD's she wants and places she'd like GC to.
My dad, um, he's tough (every year, "don't get me anything"). He gets us joke gifts every year so I'm sure he'll be getting many of those, although I need to find some quick! (I might make a Spencers run one of these days)...
I'm getting my parents a photo printer from Dell along with three packs of paper and ink, so they won't have to buy more any time soon.
I might supplement this with some other things for fun. My parents are literally the hardest people ever to shop for. My mom is notorious for returning things and she buys most of the stuff she wants. My dad is a no frills kind of guy and doesn't understand why you'd pay more than $10 for oh....just about anything. They're hillarious, but they're so friggin hard to shop for!!!
