Your Favorite Holiday Activity or Tradition?

What do you love to do around the holidays?

I love to:

- Walk in Central Park in the snow

- Drive around the suburbs and look at decorations

- Go ice-skating with my dad

- Make Xmas cookies

We are also doing an advent calendar for the first time this year. It is so fun (even though my bf missed a bunch of days already!).

-Going with my dad on Christmas Eve day to buy my mom's gift.  I know he waits until the last minute, but he takes my sister and I and it is so cute to watch him ponder over picking out the best thing for her.

-Midnight Mass.  I was born and raised Catholic in a very Catholic town.  We have a huge, beautiful old church and have candlelit service at Midnight.  The altar is filled with candles and the children from the private Catholic school across the street do a march with lit candles and then sing silent night to start the service.  It is very beautiful and sweet.

-Breakfast after midnight mass with my dad's extended family.  The whole family (45 people) pack into my grandparents house about 2 blocks from the church.  We eat a bunch of fattening food and play cards until 4ish in the morning.

-Listening to the men's choir sing "For Unto Us".  My favorite Christmas Carol.

-Seeing the KC Plaza lights from the air as I fly into my childhood home each year.

Ohhhhh, I can barely wait!

*looking at lights everywhere
*I love seeing the different mall decorations - one of our malls has snow globes of the Narnia characters, I can't wait to see it
*not really an activity, but I love that nearly every store is playing Christmas music. Puts me in the mood.

-Going gift shopping and having little secrets floating around the house as we tell someone what we got the other person!

-Also going with my dad shopping for my mom. He has it bad, its my moms Birthday on the 16th, anniversary on the 20th, and then Christmas!

-Decorating the house inside and outside. Then when I come home everyday I feel happy and warm!

-Leaving cookies and milk for Santa!

-Midnight mass on Christmas Eve! At my church we have nuns so after mass they invite everyone to a little building that they have and they have hot chocolate, pies, cookies and tamales ready for everybody to eat!

-Then of course Christmas morning!!! I am always the first one downstairs and I feel like a little kid when I see all the presents and get all excited, then I go see if Santa ate his cookies!!!  After dragging everyone else out of their beds we all go and gather around the tree and pass out the presents, and usually it takes us about an hour then we have some Menudo!!! We stay at our house going through everything new and getting dressed up for dinner. We have no family here so it is just my parents, two sisters, brother and I!!
