Alright, so I'm making this stocking for my hubby this year:
I'm going to put a big white band at the top and embroider his name on that and then put a moon and some stars in the sky, but what do I put on the left side of the stocking in the white space (the heel part)? I just don't know what to put there. I could probably do a squirrel, although it would probably be small and therefore tedious, or I could do presents. But I just don't know. I want to make this really cute so that he has it forever. Any ideas?
Oh, and I'm going to make the backing red or green and bind the two sides with silver thread. It's going to be so cute!
I really like FP's idea (you could do both the heel and the toe w/ your silver thread--that would be cute)!
But if you don't want to do that for whatever reason, you could do a little frozen pond--just an icy-blue blob with a darker blue outline and lines on the top to suggest ice.

Or an icy river that cgoes from the higher end of the heel, "behind" the deer" and to the lower end of the toe. Kind of wavy. if you know what i mean? It would tie everything together more than having one thing of the left and something else on the right...
Thanks for the ideas ladies! I like the idea of a river! That would be cute! A soccer ball would be cute, but my husband isn't really into soccer. I thought of a hockey puck though, but I think a hockey puck would just look like a black circle and you wouldn't be able to tell what it was. Or that it might look like a turd that Rudolf just happened to come across! (Hence the look of surprise on his face. )
I've done some more work to the stocking. I added a moon and a piece of green up at the top where I'm going to embroider his name. I'll take more pics of it tonight and post so you can have an idea of what it's starting to look like. I'll also take pics of my stocking that my grandmother made for me as a baby. It's gorgeous and it gave me the inspiration to do my husband's.
How about some sort of bird, maybe a cardinal that might be kind of hard because it would be small. Or what about a bunny or a little decorated Christmas tree.Beautiful work so far.
