My iPod is freaking out
Permalink Closed

OK I'm really upset right now. My doggone IPod is freaking out. It just skips through songs, freezes up, won't play etc. Has anyone else had this happen? It's a year old, I use it practically every day. Can it wear out? Has anyone else had this happen with theirs?

Ugh this happened to mine. I ultimately ended up returning it. Try restoring it. If that doesn't work and it's still under warauntee, take it back.

Did you recently add anything to your ipod?  Do you use iTunes or some other way to add music?  How full is your ipod?  It's possible that the software is corrupted (which happens pretty often) or the harddrive's index is corrupted (also happens often).  The restore procedure should fix this pretty easily.

Also you might want to pay attention to the noise coming out of the drive.  If you hear *a lot* (more than normal), especially lots of clicks when there's nothing to click about, or a lot of hissing (spinning) when it's not playing anything, then there's probably a hardware (hard drive) failure.  The only way to fix this is to change the hard drive, so it'll have to go back to apple for that.
