For those of yall that run/jog, how often do you change out your running shoes? Is there a certain number of miles or certain number of hours that you keep track of, or do you just look for signs of wear and tear?
Also, any recommendations of good running shoes??
I'm so excited because I just ran 4 miles! My first time to ever run that distance!!
they say every 300 miles. Just calculate how many miles you run every week on average, and you'll have how many months you can survive with you shoes.
Other thing: if your knees/ankles/whatever start hurting, time to change shoes, no matter how long you have used them, and may be also find another model. I speak from experience: you don't want to stop running for 1 year b/c of a bad knee...
There is a guide to how often you should change your running shoes in the December issue of Health magazine. If i can remember, i will bring it in tomorrow and post it for you.
Running shoes are a personal preference. I love my Brookes running shoes. I went to a running store that sells nothing but running shoes. They let me run around in the parking lot in running shoes till i found one that i liked.
I change my shoes every 4-6 months. Another way of telling if your shoes are too old is by looking at the soles of the shoes from the side. After a while the cushion will start to have horizontal wrinkles in it, but when you start to get vertical wrinkles you need to replace them.
I second sunshine girl's suggestion about a running shoe store. Have them do the whole evaluation and run outside the store in them before you purchase.
One thing I have learned over the years is always buy your running shoes a size to a size and half big. I wear a six and buy a 71/2 running shoe it prevents your feet falling asleep and is better for your feet. A few different running stores have suggested this to me and I find it really helps.
