i always let the light come on, getting gas is such a chore. i think i'm on a quarter tank now though so you've influenced me to be good and get gas asap. thanks!
almost never! It freaks me out. I fill at 1/4, or just below it. I actually read somewhere (in one of those self-defense articles for women) that women who frequently drive alone should never have less than 1/2 tank of gas. (I guess this is in case you're followed, or so you don't have to stop alone at night?) Not sure if it's good advice, but I always remember it.

How often do you let your gas light come on before you refill? I never used to let it come on, I would fill if I still had 1/4 of a tank. But lately I have been really lazy and I let the light come on every time.
You know, I never used to let the light come on, I'd always fill up when I was on a 1/4 of a tank, but now my BF's bad habits are wearing off on me...he always tells me you can go at least 20 miles after the light comes on so now I find myself not getting gas until the light comes on most times

That is really good advice, actually. I should remember that when I am driving around on almost empty, especially when I am up by my friend's house in the middle of nowhere.
For people who live in cold climates, I have heard it isn't a great idea to let your tank get low in the winter. Condensation forms on the inside of your tank and then mixes with the gas, which obviously isn't great for your engine. Also it is a good idea to put gas line de-icer in when you fill the tank. I don't have a car yet know this. Just call me Cliff Claven.
I fill up at 1/4 of a tank. I've ran out of gas twice because of that stupid light - once because it didn't come on and once because I didn't pay attention to how long it had been on.

Shopchicago33, our BFs think a lot alike. In the past couple years this kind of thinking has rubbed off on me...my mother always stressed how I should not be driving with less than a 1/4 tank but now I do it a lot (and I always think of what my mother would say!).
I fill up when it hits below a quarter tank. I like to use up all the gas and get fresh gas. That is probably a dumb thought though! Yesterday my low fuel signal came on (I think in my car manual it says I have 3 miles left?) So I worry if I will make it to the nearest gas station on time.
Me too, I'll 90% of the time let my light come on, then I'll get some gas shortly after, more than likely after work.....LOL

I usually fill up when I'm close to 1/4 tank. I hate, hate, hate being late, so I despise it when I get in the car only to discover that I need to get gas first thing.
I've been so bad since I got my new car - I let the light come on almost every time. Now that it's getting cold though, I need to stop doing this. It is true that it's bad for your car to be low on gas when it's cold out.
Because of the rise in gas prices and the fact that I travel about 150 miles every week going back and forth between school and home, I fill up at the 1/2 tank mark which runs me about $30.
I try to fill up when i'm at a half tank, and yes in the winter if you have a 1/4 or less of gas in the tank it can freeze and you're stuck, so I'm extra vigilant then.
