I have a trip to tortola coming up, and I want to buy a pair of converse.  I like the idea of leather ones because they will be easier to clean, but will consider others.

I also like the idea of something that is the same tone as my skin (not same color, but tone/saturation) to create a cleaner line with my legs -- these tend to come in canvas.

how do you all feel about the slip on version?

I like these, but not sure they're right for the trip:

should I just go for the silver leather ones?  I'd love to see other suggestions too...

I will wear them with shorts and even possibly a maxi dress or skirt (I'm also bringing sandals)

TIA!

My go to sneakers are navy Converse lace ups. The canvas holds up surprisingly well. Mine are about 4 years old. I've stuck them in the washer 2x and then stuffed them with newspapers to dry. The shape and color looks about the same as when I bought them.

Personally I don't like the slip ons. They didn't feel secure on my feet and they just looked sloppy to me. Of the ones you posted, I think I like the last pair the best for how you plan on wearing them (with bare legs.) The color may not match your skin tone exactly, but it also won't break it up. If you were going to wear them with jeans I'd say go with the gray.

I bought a sweet pair of grey suede Lacoste tennies last summer and I love them! Think I got them thru zappos. Congrats on your trip! Sounds divine! :D

Thanks, bellaluna!

I'm also adding these as contenders:

nylon uppers - should be easy to clean

These would match my skin tone, but they're canvas... I *might* like these best.

I love my converse too, and am with Boots on her input above. I wear mine with gel arch support tho as my arches kill me without them. Especially if you're going to be doing a lot of walking.

Thanks for the tip on the inserts - I have some.

I ended up buying these gold leather ones:

Converse Men's Gold Metallic Oxford Sneakers

BUT I'm still considering the gray nylon ones for jeans as boots suggested...

Good to know about the slip ons. I was thinking about getting some for dog walking, because I find that my laces often loosen themselves, and it's hard to get the doggies to stop, juggle leashes and poop bags, while I re-tie my shoes. Maybe I should look for something different. (Or just get different shoelaces...)

I love the metallic leather ones. I have been wanting some converse, and these are now in the running. I've wanted balck or gray but now I am seeing the appeal of having 2 pairs. Oh, what this forum does to me! ;)

It might be the laces.  I wear mine to walk the brother's dog (who I pretend is mine since I'm the one who walks him the most!) and my laces tend to come undone.  I triple tie them before we go out now and they stay tied even when we do a 2 hour walk.
