So my puppy I adopted 2 months ago almost died this weekend!!! She got spayed last Tuesday and ever since then she was throwing up. My vet thought it was just a side-effect from the anesthetics, but I insisted on bringing her in. Two seconds after he palpated her abdomen he said she needed x-rays, and 2 seconds after he looked at those he said she needed emergency surgery!! Turns out the membrane between her abdominal and chest cavities ripped 2-3 months ago due to some sort of trauma, and her intestines and liver slid forward into her chest. This explains why she never gained weight and why when we tried to run her she couldn't go very far: she was working off of like 1/2 a lung!!! Also, she aspirated a TON of So anyways, she goes in for surgery, and then the vet comes out to tell me that her liver and lungs grew together so he had to essentially cut them apart. A few minutes later he comes out to let me know that her chest is filling with blood, she wasn't wanting to wake up, that he may have to go back in, and that we might lose her. Needless to say I completely lost it at that point, crying hysterically and blubbering all over the place. (I'd brought her in by myself since my boyfriend was out of town. I was in the vet's office form 10:45am-5:30pm) I guess her liver and lungs were oozing a ton of blood so that's what was causing it. Anyway, it turns out he didn't have to go back in, and she eventually woke up. However, she had to spend the rest of the weekend at the emergency vet hospital (which sucks by the way, they didn't follow a single one of his instructions!!) and then went back to our vet Monday for the day. She came home with us last night, but she has to stay pretty much immobile for the next 30 days. If she moves wrong or jumps on or off the couch, she could rip everything open and die. I am now THE most paranoid pet owner I know. All I can say is thank god my mother and I are close, and that she has a very good relationship with her credit card company!!
So, long story short, please say a prayer for my little Laney, and keep your fingers crossed that she makes it okay for the next 30 days. Sorry this was so long!!!
