So I've been really working on taking good care of my skin. I've always done the basic stufff, like taking my make up off every night and using sun screen every day. I've now been using the Mia Clarisonic for over a year with good results. Last August I started using Neutrogeana's 3 step acne treatment and my skin has been mostly clear for probably the first time since I was 12! I've also started using weekly chemical peels in an effort to get rid of some hyperpigmataion and fine wrinkles.
What do you consider the most important steps you take to take care of your skin?
- Exfoliate and protect (One shouldn't do the former without the latter)
- Use a moisturizer that contains cell-communicating ingredients and that supports skin's natural barrier from moisture loss. (I just use CeraVe's body lotion as my face lotion.)
- Use non-irritating skincare products. Inflatmation from irritation leads to skin problems. You don't have to have a conspicuous, obvious reaction to a product for it to be considered irritating. The low-grade, consistent irritation is just as problematic in the long run.
I *believe* that using UVA/UVB sunscreen every day is the best thing I do...but I guess it's yet to be seen. I didn't realize that you needed UVA until a few years ago - and I thought I was being so smart for so long wearing sunscreen every day!

I don't think my skin is as great as it used to be, BUT, when I look at other women/men my age I think the best thing I've done is stay out of the sun as much as possible.
Xtina- I've read that enzyme peels and/or masks (not chemical peels) are great for dry and sensitive skin.
The peels (I did a TCA peel in January and have been alternating weeks between a 55% lactic acid and glycolic peels) are working nicely for me. My skin is smoother and some the brown sun spots are fading (I think.) I just added a Vitamin C serum yesterday, so I'll see how that works with my skin. After only 2 applications though, I have to say it is giving me a bit of a glow. Usually at this point of the year, I look and feel like I've aged 10 years because of work. I'm really happy to say that I don't have that problem this year. It's amazing how having decent skin affects your overall mood.
Definitely washing off makeup at night. I used to be lazy about that when I was younger. I'm also a big fan of the Prevage line. Been using it for about 4 years now. People often compliment me on my skin. Also, no more sun worshipping! I miss the color but not worth it for the wrinkles and melanoma. Also, drink a LOT of water and take supplements including biotin. Getting adequate sleep is a must as well. They don't call it "beauty sleep" for nothing ;)
1. Wash every evening, even if I am exhausted, usually with something with a gentle exfoliant 2. night time moisturizer 3. wash with gentle cleanser 4. SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN
my job has me in the sun a lot, so after every flight, I wash my face and reapply sunscreen.
I never sleep in my makeup. EVER. Not only is it bad for your skin, it would ruin my linens.
I always wear sunscreen, even if I'm home during the day. I use a glycolic wash 3x a week. I also use high powered night creams, and retinoids. I'm happy to report I'm 31 and don't have any wrinkles or lines. Never had botox (I'd be sad if I needed it before like 45 years old).
Like D I also take supplements and drink lots of water.
