I will never shop at Half-Price Books again! I went there tonight to sell some books and browse. When I first walked in, two salespeople looked right at me, but didn't even welcome me. I took over a box of books - there were probably 30 in there, and they gave me $12 for all of them! I wasn't expecting to get a lot of money for them, but I was expecting a little more than $12, especially since some of them were hardcover, and all of the books were in excellent condition. I was too much in shock to take the books back and try selling them elsewhere. It seriously made me sick, exspecially to know that they will turn around and sell them for half price! Maybe I was being unrealistic, but I could have made more at a garage sale! I refuse to ever go back to that store. Plus, while I was browsing while I waited for them to tally the meager sum of the books, I noticed that most of the books in the store were in poor condition, but they still wanted half price. I am NEVER going back there. There is a Barnes and Noble not far from my apartment that has a used book section, and they are much better about selling books for the condition they are in.
*sorry this is so long and rant-y, I'm just pissed off.

That is too bad, but maybe you could try going to another location for better service. I have always encountered very nice and helpful people working there. However, they pay $hit for your books, which I don't understand why. It is basically like donating books. Maybe it helps keep the costs down?
the profits that a 1/2 price book store bring are not that extravagant. After you take into account their rent electricity wages insurances etc they cannot afford to pay too much for the books. On the other side of this I do think they should price the books according to their condition. And you deserve to be treated well as a supplier and a customer. Sheesh would it kill them to smile and say thanks. I would defineitely take you business elsewhere. I am all for suporting small local businesses over the large chains but if they do not value my business then I have the option to go somewhere that will.
