Obviously, you all know that I have officially given my notice at my job as of today. I'm a little irked, b/c whenever anyone else has quit, they got a mass e-mail sent out from their boss to everyone in the company congratulating them on their new job and wishing them well. It also served to announce that they were leaving so everyone was aware (obviously). I've gotten nothing. The only people who know I'm leaving are the ones I've told personally. So, people have no idea and keep piling mass amounts of work on me.
Should I send out my own e-mail announcement? I feel like I should, since I do work for so many different people here. And it pisses me off that my boss is such an ass about it. Would you believe that he doesn't even know my last name?? He referred to me as the wrong person today. What an idiot! But anyway, should I send my own e-mail just announcing that I've found another position and my last day is next Wednesday?
i wouldn't send one out just yet. maybe they are waiting until closer to time (though i don't know how much closer they want to cut it.) anyway if i were in your position, i would just politely inform the people who dump stuff on you that you will try your best to complete it, but that your last day is next wednesday and you don't know how successful you'll be in that effort. or something to that effect. if they don't say anything official by monday, then you could send your own email.
Maybe you could ask the person that usually sends the email out as to whether or not they were planning to send one out since all of your work is piling up and you may not finish it before you leave. If they say no that they weren't planning on sending one out, maybe suggest that you'd like to send your own out so that people will stop giving you work that you may or may not be able to finish.
I wouldn't send anything out or even mention it.I personally never gave a hoot in my previous jobs if they gave me a congrats or not or even a farewell, I never felt it was owed to me.
But..since the place about drove you nuts don't even sweat it, it's not a big deal just do your work as expected until your last day.......whatever else is left is not your problem.
Okay, thanks all. I like your suggestions. Karina and carmen, I agree, why should I care? They've screwed with me, but honestly, the whole company hasn't been bad. It's not everyone's fault that my boss is an idiot who doesn't even know his employees' last names. So, that's why I was thinking of sending something out.
nunzi, it's not one particular person who sends it out, it would be the boss of whoever is leaving. And we all know how my boss is. He actually came to me today and said, "Can you type up an e-mail of all of your duties and how long it takes to do each one, b/c I have no idea." Oooookay. Way to be on top of your employees and your company. Soooo...while I think your idea is good, I don't think it would work with this guy. Grrrr.

When I gave my notice at my HellJob, people kept assigning me long term projects. I had to (politely) inform each person who gave me work that I wouldn't be able to complete anything that couldn't be done before my last day. If that didn't work. I just accepted the work, put it in a pile, and then ignored it. My attitude was 'screw them'. If you've told them you're leaving and they still try to pile it on, they can't expect you to bust your butt doing their busy work. I don't know if ignoring it is burning a bridge, but it worked for me, they stopped giving me work. Just beware if your company is full of assholes; you'll probably get a ton of short-term busy work to do while you're still there.
Just think to yourself, "It's not my problem!" Just tell anyone that gives you work that you will try to finish it before you go, but you can't promise anything. Once you're gone, it won't matter to you if some brochures didn't go out.
