I have a red pleated midi length skirt (mid-calf) that I need help styling. The first time I wore it was with a thin mustard color turtleneck tucked in with a cognac belt around my waist and leopard pointy toe heels. However, I am not totally happy with that look the more I think about it.I don't know why. Could someone give me some ideas how to style this skirt? I don't have a pic of it, but here is something virtually identical except that my skirt is more of a true red. Thanks.

I'll be honest, the combination of red and mustard yellow just reminds me of Ronald McDonald (maybe that's what was making you think 2x about it?)
I'd wear it with gray, cobalt blue, purple, black, ivory, camel or navy. Maybe a thin cardi belted at the waist with a skinny belt. If your skirt is as long as the one in the photo, I'd want to show a little skin too. Personally I wouldn't do a turtleneck. I'd keep the top 1 or 2 buttons open on the cardi. Another alternative is going sleeveless on top (or at least short sleeves.) Something to keep the look fresh.
I love a red skirt. You'll be able to find a lot of things to pair it with. I have a red pencil skirt and am surprised that I reach for it more often than my black or gray ones.
I have the same skirt, which I've only worn once (I favor pencil skirts as my go-to) for the life of me I can't think of what I wore with it. Probably grey or camel. Love leopard with red as well
I just met someone at the kid's bday, she's a wealthy lady with a lot of style, she wore ALL GREY, her skirt was exactly like that rust color goffre floor length. She wore with with3/4 long sleeve grey tshirt & a grey fur west on top ( I think it was a real fur) with bright fuscia Chanel small bag & flat sandals (you could barely see them, the skirt hit the floor) - SO CHIC! I couldn't take my eyes of her!
I think I would want to wear it with something very contemporary on top so it doesn't look schoolmarm-ish. That's why the fitted leopard cardigan looks good to me. Other than neutrals (black white gray tan taupe camel beige) you could try a hot pink or orange for a color block effect. I think nude shoes/boots to add length. Mid-calf is a terrible length for me.
I tried to make you a PV with outfits but I got frustrated so I made a "collage" with things I liked with the skirt...I don't know how to post it but here's the link.
