Does any one have any experience with face peels?
Permalink Closed

I'm thinking of doing a at home face peel.  I've done the Brazilian Face Peel from Sephora 2x before.  The first was a sample and I liked the result so I bough a pack during FF with a GC.  It gives me smooth skin and I think it looks a bit brighter, but I'm assuming that it's a very mild peel to begin with.  Now I'm thinking of using a TCA peel from Makeup Artists Choice, which is supposed to be stronger.  I'd like to significantly reduce my hyperpigmitation (I use a Clinque product for this but I still have spots.)

I've never had a professional facial or peel.  I guess I'm just wondering if anyone here has had any experience with either professional peels or at home versions.  How bad is the actual skin peeling that is supposed to happen after wards?  Are the results worth it?  Are there any tips you might have to keep my skin safe?

Thanks!

I'm sure you've noticed that lots of companies throw around the word peel, so forgive me if these aren't like a two-step thing or stronger than a typical AHA lotion. All of these links lead to Paula Begoun's review.

In the past, I have tried Peter Thomas Roth peel pads. I think they have 10% AHA. I have also just used Paula's Choice Skin Revealing Body Lotion on my face (I think that's also 10% AHA) and rinsed it off after 5-10 min.

Derma E: Evenly Radiant Overnight Peel

Brazilian Peel

AmorePacific: Treatment Enzyme Peel

Philosophy: the microdelivery purifying peel, one-minute purifying enzyme peel

Nu Skin: 180º AHA Facial Peel

Murad: Intensive Resurfacing Peel

Kiehl's: Over-Night Biological Peel

There are lots more on Paula's list, which you can access for free.

Go to http://www.beautypedia.com/AdvancedSearch.aspx and indicate "Exfoliants" in the "Category" pulldown. Do not indicate anythng else. Hit search. Sort the resulting list by rating, and you'll get Paula's Picks first, and the ratings will become more negative from there. In order to find products that have "Peel" in the name, you have to do CTRL+F (or Command + F) on the word peel. Ignore "peel" if it occurs in the left side list of the screen (under the "Refine Search" heading).

My aunt (she's 43) has gotten peels in the past. I don't know what kind. She just has some redness when I see her. I swear I read an article on what to expect after peels in Allure or something this year. I remember it saying that it depends on the kind of peel and the strength. Sometimes you can go back to work the same day. Sometimes you need to take a couple days off  to peel away.

Thanks for all the links! I like to collect as much info on things before I actually do them. And you're so right on the term "peel." Apparently it can mean anything from exfoliation to actual skin peeling.

I ordered the TCA 15% peel from MUAC yesterday and will probably try it in a few weeks. It was less than $30 and the reviews that I found were highly positive. If anyone is interested, I can post a review here after I give it a go. Unless it melts my face off.hmm

The peel you've ordered sounds like a good next step. Good luck!
