Is anyone else as disgusted as I am as to how much the oil companies made last quarter - In one quarter they made 10 billion dollar profit. What the #$%*?

probably because the top govt officials probably are given stocks as part of the lobbying or something.

They are the government, unfortunately. Why would 'certain people' want to lower oil prices if they are the ones profiting from the high prices in the first place?

Yeah, they're making too much $, but at the same time, consumers are gagging for it. If we (all of us in the western world) weren't so attached to our huge, inefficient vehicles (etc.), demand would be a bit lower. It's everyone's responsibility to deal with the reality that demand for oil is pretty close to outstripping supply. Best to prepare for that than act shocked/surprised when it happens. Western gov'ts aren't helping, because they're too scared to say anything, lest a panicked populace vote them out intead of facing reality (and lest their oil revenues dry up).

disgusted yeah, not surprised. I try to keep my votes for Democrats and for environmentalists, but the rest of the country obviously still doesn't consider this a problem because they are still driving around their Ford Expeditions in the name of carrying their 2 kids or in some cases, a bicycle and dogs around. you know... it's all about me me me. Sorry, soapbox....
