My big fat orange kitty, Frank has lost some serious lbs while we were away. We thought it was because he was lonely without us, but he just hasn't been acting the same. DH took him to the vet this afternoon and they grabbed him and rushed him in because he apparently is having liver failure.
They are running tests and keeping him overnight. I hope they can save him. I am so sad.
Hey girl. My cat use to do that to us all the time. He would go on starvation strikes while we were on vacation. Unfortunately we were away too much this last time and we couldn't save him but luckily your vet is willing to help. My mom use to nurse him back to health all the time. Basically she use to stay up around the clock and shoot food and water down his throat every hour to two hours with a syrenge and that use to save him.
So when your kitty makes it home if you need help taking care of him let me know. I'm praying for him!!
Oh, Jocey, that stinks. Cats are pretty resilient animals though, so your cat could be just fine. I hope he is!
I know what you mean about them being family--they totally wind their way into your heart and it's impossible to think of them as anything but another member of the family.
my boy, Frank is indeed having liver failure. The vet said 80% of his liver is failing. He has been at the animal hospital all weekend.. We are soo sooo sad.
They are feeding him through a syringe, he is taking it but is not eating on his own. He hasn't improved, but hasn't gotten much worse either.
He developed jaudice on Friday too, not a good sign.
The vet is going to do an ultrasound tomorrow and see how bad it really is and if there is anything more they can do for him.
We are going to visit him tonight.
I just can't stop crying. Our animals are our lives.
Frank and our other kitty, Taylor always talk to each other. She has been crying and meowing all weekend and Frank is obviously not answering her. She wont stop looking through the house, looking in closets, behind the couch.. She just cant figure out where he went. Whenever she starts doing this, my hubby and I both just burst into tears.
Please pray for us. Our family will be incomplete without him. Thanks girls.
Oh, Jocey, I can definitely relate. My 4-year old cat passed away about month ago. She was also a rescued kitty and I loved her dearly. It's so difficult when a good friend passes, especially one so young, and somewhat suddenly. My kitty had a heart condition we were unaware of, and I'm still heartbroken over the loss.
You just have to realize that you've given an abandoned cat such a wonderful life, even for a short time. I hope Frank pulls through, but if he doesn't, know that you've given him so much more than he would have gotten living on the street.
We had to go out and adopt two more kittens, which definitely helped ease some of the pain. They're so hilarious, and it makes me feel better to give other kittens a chance at a decent life.
I'm really sorry. I hope and pray he gets better. Like gruiz said, at least you know you gave him a good life. You showed him tons of love. I'm sorry, I know how it is to lose loved ones. I wish there was something we could do.
