How do you all feel about the upturned, or flipped, collar on men?  A co-worker and I really hate it and it got me wondering to how other females felt about it.  I once briefly dated a guy and once I saw him with the flipped collar, I was turned off.

I am anti flip.

It reminds me of my early teens (long time ago!) when all the guys wore polo shirts with the collars turned up and enough RL Polo to hinder proper breathing in the classroom.

I, too, am not a fan.  I especially can't stand when the polo shirts are layered so that there are two colors showing on the collar.  Wayyyyyyyyyyyy too preppy for my taste.

Not a fan of that look on men at all...somehow it makes them look effiminate.

That said, there's a gal I work with who always has her starched white shirt with the collar up and looks fabulous!  I'm so jealous...the look does NOT work on me!

I'm a fan of popped collars. I sometimes pop my collars and my ex does it all the time. (he is super preppy and  HOTT) He layers his polos as well.

Sage! You just described my HS years. And you nailed it. I hate the upturned collar too.

Exactly!  I actually think the look is okay, but 90% of the guys who do it seem to be complete jackasses.

Not a fan either. That look makes me think the guy is too cocky and into himself.

It's a hard look to pull off, the guy better be super hot for it to look good.

I don't like it on guys because it looks like they're trying to hard, yet for some reason, I do it on my own polo

Unless you are John Travolta (ala Danny Zuko) in Grease, you should not flip up your collar.

Aaaaaiiieeeee! 80's flashback!  I'm not a fan, unless the guy is extremely good looking.

I was not really aware that the popped collar phenomenon had a deeper meaning until I came east for school. Before I came here I thought it was something people did like as a funny 80s throwback. Now I realize that there is a whole culture built around the popped collar.

I'm personally so not into it. Here it means that you probably went to prep school, grew up in Fairfield County, CT, and are an asshole. So I'm probably pre-judging a lot of people, but that's just not really my dream man.

I think it's super preppy but also very youthful looking.  I am engaged to a preppy frat boy and he won't do it (he's 24).

I have an A&F polo and it has the little moose on the inside of the collar if I were to pop it

there's a guy at my office whom i affectionately call "risky business" because he does this all the time with his polo shirts.  he's super-cool and not an asshole at all, which is the only reason it works.  he's not necessarily being ironic with it, but he definitely gets the joke.  that's why it works.

I despise the popped collar (especially when done on a guy with a pink polo).  Reminds me of the snobby spoiled kids at my school.  Have you guys ever heard the "real men of genius" commercials?  They have one just for popped collars.

"Real Men of Genius: Today we salute you, Mr. Constant Collar Putter Upper. You, bedecked in popped collar, teach us that we no longer have to live with a cold back of the neck. Sure, your Pink alligator polo may look feminine to some, but not to the 17 other frat guys wearing the same thing at the bar. Where others may see thoughtless fashion conformity, you preach a higher gospel. You preach of a world where its okay for a man to go tanning. You ask "why can't we wear make-up, and use shampoo with lavender essence?" So crack open an ice-cold Bud Light, Mr. Abercrombie (or is it Fitch?), because we all know, when we really need a piece of gum, you might have one...in your man purse. "

I'm kind of a fan of someone who will dare it, but i don't like it if it looks forced. Or if he's not cute. Popped collar over a beer belly is not a good look....
