thank you- letter or email? help!
Permalink Closed

i had a second interview yesterday with a VP at a media company.  my first interview was with the two sales directors and it went great- i definitely nailed it and these are the women that i would be working closely with.  yesterday's interview went fine, but i'm not as confident this time.  anyway, at the end of the interview, he told me that they would be making their decision at the end of this week.

i want to send a thank you (obviously), but i can't decide if i should send a card or an email!  i sent cards to the two women who interviewed me before and they loved them (i have a friend who works at this company and she told me that they were very impressed).  i'd like to be consistent and send  a card to this guy (he's the VP after all), but is it more important that it gets there super-fast?  if i mail a card today, it should get there tomorrow hopefully.  definitely by friday.  but is that too late since they're making the decision this week?

help!!!!!

I think the card would be better, but agree that timeliness is key. Is there any way you could drop a card at the reception desk for him?

This is what I have done - and it has worked well (got the job!).  You could drop it off at lunch or on your way home if possible.  I think a hand written note is much nicer than an e-mail.

I think you will stand out better if you send an actual card.  I'd get it into the mail asap or drop it off at the office.

Good luck!  Let us know if you get it!

i wish!  unfortunately, my current workplace is nowhere near their offices (across the city), so i can't just drop in on my lunch break or something.  they actually don't even have a reception desk.

I agree, a card is best, but if they are making such a quick decision, I think an email (very professional, of course) would be just fine.  This is actually what I did with my current job because it was in a different city and I knew they would be making their decision within two days.

Well the last time I had an interview with a quick turn around I typed up everything that I would have put in a card and emailed it to everyone that would be making the decision the same night when I got home from the airport.  I actually got a response from the partner I emailed (!!!) and got the job the next week.

I think an email is fine if they are making a decision this week.

UPDATE: thank you- letter or email? help!
Permalink Closed

update: well, the same day that i was debating whether to mail a note or send an email, i got an email from the woman in the HR department.  she said that the position is "on hold" for now, but that she should know the status in a week or two.  she also said that i was one of the strongest candidates and that they will be contacting me as soon as they know something.  kinda weird, huh?  i asked my friend who works at the company if she had heard anything and she told me that somebody quit five minutes before my interview on tuesday!  so everything's kinda crazy and in transition.  i hate it when this stuff happens- i just want to know already!

so anyway, i sent a card in the mail since time is not an issue anymore.  thanks for all of your suggestions!
