Apparently, my office gets very into Halloween, so we are supposed to dress up on Monday. Help! I don't know what to wear. It needs to be work appropriate, so my pirate wench costume may be questionable. Ideas, please! (cheap ones, preferably)
ETA: What if I came in as 'the boss'--wore a suit, wore my glasses and carried a briefcase???
At the community college where I work, we are supposed to dress up Monday also. I have no clue what to do. I thought about being Minnie Pearl and walking into my classes going "Howwwwwdeeeeeeeee". But I am afraid they wouldn't know who Minnie Pearl was. I would love some ideas also for work appropriate costumes.
did anyone see the office the other day? all the women were dressed up as cats! love that show!
is there away to tone down your costume at all? i mean why get another one? like can you wear a different more work appropriate shirt with it or maybe pants tucked into boots?
Hmmm...since the office is obsessed with Lost and I have become the designated leader, maybe I'll come as Kate. That would be easy--cargos, a beater, boots and dirt on my face.
Mine sounds kind of boring.... but I'm getting a black velour or fleece sweatsuit (Old Navy has cheap one) and black shoes and I have black cat ears, black bow tie, and a black tail. I'm going to wear sparkly eyeshadow and black mascara and put black on the tip of my nose and maybe a few light colored wiskers.

I like this idea!

OMG! Adorable! I grew up watching Grand Ol' Opry so I know exactly who you're talking about. Too cute.
first of all, i don't know who minnie pearl is so i don't think college kids would get it (i'm 24). 2nd, NylaBelle, you gotta be Kate!! my department loves lost, but the rest of the office could care less, otherwise we would be a group of losties (i would probably get shannon or what's her face, the formerly preggers girl). anyways, we are instead being the wizard of oz (there are 6 of us and we really wanted to do a group thing). i am either gonna be the wicked witch or glinda... depending upon what my other coworker chooses (wicked witch or flying monkey). we've got dorothy, tin man, lion, and scarecrow. i think it's quite work appropriate, but then again two years ago, before i worked here, this guy came as a catholic priest w/ pics of little boys inside his robe... talk about inappropriate!! so i guess my office isn't that strict is what i'm trying to say!
I'm going as a sailor, with white pants and tshirt, clunky shoes, a peacoat and a perfect sailor hat. It's definitely covered-up enough for work, but I don't know if you'll be able to find a hat. Mine was at a costume shop for $4 and I had the rest of the things at home.
But my other ideas were: - a mechanic, if you can find coveralls that fit, with a baseball hat and grease smears - or a gangster in a man's suit with the hat, if you can find one, and a flask - or a boxer/million-dollar baby - a beater is probably too sexy for work, but if you can find boxing gloves, just wear them with grey sweats and tape up your hands.
One year I went to work as the white trash prom queen, and it was a big hit, but it was a pretty easy going workplace and I'd been there for a long time, so it was cool. For a new workplace I can see why you'd want to be a little more careful. But the boss thing might be a little too low-key. Plus, the whole sexy secretary thing might be an image you don't want. (Last year I wanted to go as Maggie Gillenhal from Secretary, but it was kind of being done and I couldn't find the fetish accessories)
I love Halloween! Have fun!!!!
Oh wait - I just saw the Kate thing!!! Too fun! Do that!!
Dizzy--I think I'm going to be a sailor, too. I wanted to be a 1940s nurse, but it's too much work and I already have a vintage Navy uniform from the 40s. It's the navy blue wool one, though (much warmer than a nurse, too!)--it's so cute with the patches on one sleeve and the pants that have all the buttons around the front. I hope it still fits--I haven't worn it in about 5 years.
I just have to get a new hat because I lost the one I had before. You can get them at Army/Navy stores for less than $5.

Yeah, I said something at lunch to my co-workers about it and they were like, 'You have to do that! That's great!' So, Kate, it is. I'm wearing baggy khaki cargo pants, a beater and a wrinkled sheer button down on top. And nasty boots. And my hair in a wavy, low ponytail. Did Kate wear any jewelry? A necklace? I'll have to watch the DVD.
