I have been eating raw for over two weeks now, and feel soooo good -- I just had to share! It's a little difficult to go out to eat, and my choices are fairly limited at this point, but it definitely makes my food choices easier and I'm exploring fruits and veggies I wouldn't normally buy.
I've lost 10 lbs and my back and knee pain have even subsided. I have tons of energy and haven't felt this good in many, many, many years.
I've just been making salads, handfulls of almonds, fresh fruit, or slice up a tomato or an avocado and put olive oil and sea salt on it. I'm not being a total purist about it (I am still drinking beer and that is "cooked" and I probably use more salt than I should and who knows how uncooked my cold press virgin olive oil is, but if i try to eat raw always, the result is majority of what I injest is good, and still seems to effective.
Anyway - I feel fantastic and wanted to share what I've been doing!

Congrats on feeling healthier! I think anything that spurns a person to make healthy choices is great. What works for one person, may not work for another, but if it makes you feel good, then you get a big YAY from me!
That is so excellent, D! I'm glad to hear from someone who is noticing a swift change. I've been him-hawing around doing something similar for too long now.
So true what you say about eating fruits and veggies you wouldn't normally eat - the other night I made what I considered a quick/easy dinner (not raw but vegan) and I realized I was eating 7 different vegetables in one dish. Granted some were in very small quantities like onion, garlic but that's probably more veggies than most people eat in several days. I use 3-4 different fruits in my smoothies.
That reminds me, Suasoria. DH and I will, for fun, go to a specialty market and pick up some fruits and/or veggies that we've never tried before and have a little tasting at home. It's so fun, and reminds us of how good fruit is. DH needs no reminder, as fruit is is his favorite food. I, on the other hand, need the reminder when I'm just dying for donuts and pizza.
The grand tour of the unusual fruit circuit came earlier this year when we went to Robert Is Here in Homestead, FL (www.robertishere.com). We bought a bunch of fruits and brought them back to Miami for a tasting. We tried mamey (tastes like sweet potoatoes and is uh-mazing in a milkshake!), sopadilla, sapote black (tastes and looks like chocolate pudding), dragon fruit, passion fruit, lychee, and more.
Wow, D. I am proud of you! Congratulations on feeling so much healthier in such a short amount of time. When I was practicing a vegan diet, I would have raw days, but haven't tired a raw diet on its own yet. But, I have been contemplating going vegan again for awhile, I wonder if I should challenge myself to go raw?
Su - starting out simple with intact veggies and fruits -- I plan to do some smoothies and just received some books this am to help with that.
PJ - thanks for sharing your shopping experience -- I'm going to have to look up some of the items you mention. I'm really loving heirloom tomatoes at the moment (but wow - they spoiled 2 days after buying them???)
GD -I was eating mainly vegetarian with some raw, but decided I wanted to at least give raw a shot. I have heard so many good things about the impact eating raw can have on your health, plus good weight loss results. I've had a very rough year and let myself go -- this is part of me taking control of my health and taking better care of myself.
I actually had a really rough time sticking to it yesterday, but I did it. I will have been eating raw for 3 weeks tomorrow...
I just got a delivery from amazon this morning (did you know they have prestige service where they have an individual in a car drive up and drop off your package? I shop online entirely too much...) anyway - I just got:
I think I'm going to cozy up with the puppies and do a little reading (it's raining out and perfect for snuggling and reading!)
