how do you guys feel about PDA?  I am seeing a new guy and I really like him, but he always tries to get in a little peck here and there, and I don't really let him do it.  I am fine with holding hands but I don't know why I can't let him kiss me in public.  I am just really weird about it.  Any thoughts?

A casual peck/hug is totally fine with me - I'm comfortable doing and/or seeing someone else do it.  What is NOT okay with me is groping or any kind of tonsil hockey!

My rule is don't do anything in public you wouldn't do in front of his mother !

It's funny, I always hated any type of PDA's until I met my current BF.  Now I'm like LMonet - I don't mind hand holding, or the ocassional peck, etc, but I would make out w/my BF or grope in public - that's disgusting to me.

Hmmm.... As for public, public, I think it's okay for hand holding and small kisses and hugs.

But I also think it's really, really sweet when I see a couple kissing on the corner. (I saw this the other day: one guy was on his bike getting ready to cross the street and the girl was just standing there, walking. I guess it was a goodbye kiss but it was so damn sweet!)

And if we've been drinking a bit and we're holed up in a corner booth at a bar, I think a little more than a peck is okay. And I think it's really sweet to see a couple lean over and kiss one another at a red light. As long as they don't make me have to wait once the light turns green, that is.

Here's what I absolutely CANNOT tolerate: googly eyed fools (it's just not necessary), touching of asses or other inappropriate things in public, tonsil hockey in daylight, and little, cute cuddly names (personal one, I know).

Awww - my BF does that to me sometimes at a red light and I think it's so cute, so obviously I'm ok w/that one too.

My BF is definitely a little more into PDA's - not that he's disgusting and tries to grope me, but he definitely likes to show affection a lot and doesn't really care where he is

awwww, janey likes a boy!

i think there's a fine line with PDA- and it also totally depends on where you are.  i'm totally fine with handholding and little kisses out in public (goodbye kisses are fair game), but not hanging all over each other and making out at a bar, for example.  i think that can wait until you get home.  but in general, i think showing a little affection is so sweet!  as long as you're not making the people around you uncomfortable.

and i looooove kissing at red lights- it's so cute!  i remember the first time a guy kissed me at a red light- it was the first time i thought, "wow.  we are definitely a couple now."  haha, is that dorky??

Like shopchicago, I was always very anti any sort of PDA until I met my current boyfriend. Not to sound incredibly cheesy, but now I can't resist it. Not making out in public though, just hand holding and pecks.

I guess I am in the minority - 98% of PDA that I see doesn't bother me. Admittedly, I might not be seeing much, b/c I tend to tune it out. But I think kissing is fine, kissing in a bar is fine, etc. The only thing I think is icky is extended (which I define as longer than 60 seconds) kissing, serious groping (jokey a**-grabbing doesn't bother me), etc.

Oh, and if you are in a group of people, nothing but hand-holding is okay, IMO.

OMG - I hate that!! If I'm out with a couple I HATE when they give each even so much as a peck. It's disgusting, isn't it? And when we're out dancing and they're all over each other? Ewww - ick!! I hate it.

This is one of the things that can actually make me so icked out that I want to leave and go home. I can't stand it - am I alone here?

Nope! You are not alone. But I've got to say - the worst is: MY MOM and HER HUSBAND.

Ewwww.

I can't go out to dinner with them alone. It's disgusting.

Although I'd never thought of it this way, this is exactly how i feel about it. My MIL & her husband always hold hands even 20+ years later & I think it's so sweet!

haha. yes i like a boy

i must be really uptight or something....i should work on that, loosen up or something.  the boy says that i'm like adam sandler in anger management.

i also think kissing at a redlight is cute, but for some reason, i don't have a problem with that at all.  it's just when we are in public. for example, when we were bowling (but it was just the two of us).

Haha!  They're Jack & Judy Geller from "The one with the rehearsal dinner in London"!

I am all about the PDA's when I'm serious with someone.  When I am so into someone, I want to kiss, hug, and hold hands any time, any place.  However, I get uncomfortable if a guy I just met is trying to be all over me in public.  It is actually a turn-off that has made me not want to see a guy again.

When I do participate in a PDA, I am sensitive to the environment though.  I would never do it in a situation where others would feel uncomfortable or left out.

I'm pretty much with everyone else... holding hands, occassional pecks, etc. are ok. My bf has been known to lean over for a kiss at a red light (which I also think is the sweetest thing).

There's a couple who works with me, and every once and a while we all get put on the same shift. They are both really cool people, but they annoy me A LOT! It's not like they grope each other per-se, but there's an awful lot of butt and boob grabbing going on. We work together in a small area behind a counter at a coffee shop (4 of us at a time, the work space is about as wide as a hallway) so it's really hard to try to ignore it. I know they're only doing it as a joke between each other, but seriously... stop! It's like, we know you're together and happy and have a sex life, is that what you're trying to tell us? It's been said that they only do it when I'm around (ok, so we were gossiping ) so it makes me wonder. Anyway, I digress...

Any type of PDA besides holding hands is unacceptable in a group situation, IMO. I don't know if it's because of respect or awkwardness, but I don't think my friends/family/whoever we may be around really need to see my affections toward my boyfriend... and I wouldn't appreciate seeing theirs.

i'm usually pretty tolerant of PDA, the only thing that really bugs me is when people do it in front of family members.  like, i'm glad my little brothers have girlfriends they like, but i could live without seeing them grabbing each other's butts and laying on each other on the couch at my parents' house when we are all there for the weekend.  it's icky.

most pda's don't bother me. but it's funny that this topic came up b/c at least once a week i see a couple engaged in serious pda in the train station -- like ass grabbing, full tongue, etc. when i'm going home. i'm just like sheesh the person's going to jersey (and like 20 minutes into jersey) not afghanistan. i will say, being the b**ch that pda when the couple is just generally unattractive grosses me out to no end.

Haha I was totally thinking this, but didn't say it. For me that's the real deal breaker. if you're super hot, I'm going to be bothered by it a lot less.

I totally agree - my BF and I would never be all over eachother in front of our families, because I think that's just gross.  On the other hand, my brother and his wife are gross - they are always all over eachother in front of my family, which I think grosses everyone out and makes us all uncomfortable.  I've actually made snide remarks about it because I think it's really inappropriate - especially when we are at dinner together
