anyone in LA -- i'm going out there for the first time in a couple weeks. what's the weather like and what is everyone wearing (season-wise)? can you still wear summery-ish stuff out there? (bare legs, flip flops, short sleeves?)
i am finally starting to transition into fall (being in CT it's been kind of cold) so i'm back in jeans and boots and stuff like that but don't want to bother carting too much bulky stuff out there if i'm not going to end up wearing it.
It's been pretty nice lately...very temperate during the day (70s to low 80s weather), but it gets a bit chilly on some nights (high 50s to low 60s) so dress in layers.
Some people have broken out the boots here, but I think it's still too warm. At night it might be okay, though.
i agree w/ LK... the weather has been average. but things change quick here so it might not be quite "warm" when you come, but you definitely won't need a parka! i would check weather.com as it is quite accurate. people are starting to dress more "fall" but the majority are still in flip-flops (and will be year round).
as for hotel, Sofitel is across the street from Cedars & i think it's very nice. not sure your price range though & that's really the only hotel i know around there. there's a ton on sunset, but that's not walking distance at all & probably pricey. good luck!
For hotel recs, the hotels around Cedars are fairly high-end...the two I can think of are the Sofitel (as crystal mentioned), and Le Meridien (on San Vicente and La Cienega). Both are kind of expensive, but have great service...my experiences at both places have been supremely positive.
FYI, if you're going to be in town this weekend, Alvin Valley's having a sample sale at Le Meridien on Saturday from 12-6.

i'll be in town this weekend!!!! too bad the ones i tried at fred segal looked like crap on me... i wonder if i should even bother... what do they go for at a sample sale? are you going? i probably can't anyways, but just in case i want the details!
thanks for the info. we're coming next week, so no sample sale for me...
do either of you know anything about the elan modern? the decor looks really cool from their website and is $100 less /night than sofitel (and still pretty close to cedars). it doesn't have a pool, though, but considering we're there for my bf to have surgery that isn't the end of the world.
also, we're thinking of going to stay at the beach after he gets out of the hospital so he can relax and recover before we have to fly home. we kind of need to be somewhat accessible to the hospital in case we need to get back there. i found a couple places that were cool in malibu and hermosa but was advised that they would be too far -- can you recommend any hotels near/on the beach in santa monica or manhattan beach?
Casa del Mar and Shutters on the Beach are beautiful hotels in Santa Monica, right on the beach. They're across from each other and owned by the same people but Shutters has more of a laid-back beach house vibe and Casa del Mar has an old-school classic feel to it. You really can't go wrong with either, and Santa Monica is really close to Beverly Hills (probably a 15 min drive to Cedars).
There's also the Viceroy, it's close to the beach but not really on it (but it does have a pretty fun pool), and it's got a trendy/hip vibe.
