Re-upholstering
Permalink Closed

I found this fabulous old couch and chair set at Thrift for $100.  I'm simply in love with it, but the fabric is dirty and worn.  I don't think I could clean it up so I'm looking to re-upholster.  Do any of you know how much it costs to get furniture re-upholstered?  I'm just looking for a ball park figure.  Also, I'm pretty crafty... is this something I could do myself or should I leave it up to a professional?  Obviously I know nothing about this sort of thing, so ANY help would be really appreciated.  TIA!!

Hmm, I don't know but I think this might be expensive since fabric for furniture is pricey.

I'm not sure how much it would cost to reupholster something, but I think it's fairly pricey.  Since you said you're crafty, I'll bet you could make a slipcover for the couch and chair.  There are upholstry tacks too that you can use to hold fabric in place on a piece of furniture--they look like a pushpin, but the pin part is like a corkscrew, so you actually screw it in to the furniture and it holds the fabric in place.

Before you go to a ton of work though, it'd probably be worthwhile to call a reupholsterer and get an estimate and see how much fabric they'll need you to buy to get the couch and chair covered.  Then see if you think it'd be worthwhile just to pay someone to do it.
