OK here are some of mine. Sorry for all the pictures but I did a lot of closet cleaning and was getting nostalgic.
Inspired by a weekend of closet cleaning...
I have a few shirts that I've owned since high school so I've been wearing them for about 10 years now (and actually I bought them at a thrift shop so obviously they are even older). One is a red striped Le Tigre polo which can be seen in this picture of a 17 year old me taken after a long day at the beach:
Another is this green Adidas shirt which has the little trefoil logo on the chest. Please ignore the ridiculous maple leaf tiara (going away party earlier this year for a friend moving to Toronto).
And this is the dress that I wore to my senior year winter formal way back in 1995!
I haven't owned most of my bags for that long since I only started buying nicer bags once I got out of college but I think this MJ (my first designer purchase) is my oldest. I think I got it in 2001.
And this summer I finally retired my oldest pair of shoes which I had been wearing since 1997
I have 2 pairs of work/dress pants from Bebe that are about 7 years old. They used to actually make some really nice suiting pieces: cute, but not at all slutty or teeny-bopper looking.
1986--black cashmere coat, classic style, bought at Bergdorf Goodman in NYC. Since I live in California and wear it maybe 6 times a year, it will never wear out.
1987, I think. Black Judy Hornby dress--designer sample--that I bought at NM for the grand opening of the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose. Most expensive dress I have ever owned. Can't get it zipped up anymore, but I did wear it at least 6 times.
Prom dress from college my sister found in my Mother's basement, Was white brocade, now yellowing. I keep it for sentimental reasons.
Thanks for taking me down this trip on memory lane.
a red mandarin collared jacket with butterfly designs on it. i got it in 10th grade, and i still wear it occasionally. from a thrift, as well. i have my senior year cross country running shoes, too.
I haven't really held on to many clothes. I have a black strapless cocktail dress from Bebe that I wore my freshmen year of college that I still wear (I'm 25 now).
As for shoes, I have a pair of black nine west boots that are perfect...tall, 4 inch heel, comfortable, that I've had since highschool.
My oldest bag is also from highschool. It's a basic black Kate Spade that I carried forever. It's pretty worn out now but I can't get rid of it for sentimental reasons.
I have this great sweater that I bought freshman year of highschool from JCrew. It's white cotton crew neck with a zipper that goes from one side of the neck to the armpit. I still wear it all the time. Other than that there's not much that I still actually wear. And that one's only 5 years old.
I have a hooded sweatshirt my grandmother gave me when I was 13. I am now 34. Wow. I still wear it occasionally, around the house. I will never throw it away. It has the logo of the university near where I am from and she went there to get the shirt for me for Christmas because I really really wanted it. So it is special......
My oldest article of clothing is my black v-neck sweater. My mom gave it to me in 1995 (after having worn it herself throughout the 1970s and part of the 1980s), when I was 10. I have worn it consistently for ten years. Somehow it has managed to stretch and shrink as I change sizes. I've fluctuated among three or four different sizes since turning 10 and I'm surprised it still fits and feels pretty much like it did ten years ago. I don't know what I'm going to do if I have to replace it. I'm wearing it here.
Most of my purses are recent acquisitions. I ditched a lot of cheap/young looking purses in the past couple of years in favor of trying to acquire a higher quality and very classic but still quirky bag collection. So my oldest is my Speedy 25, which I've had since March 2003.
I have a pair of Adidas shell toes like these from freshman year of college (late 2001/early 2002). My Jesus shoes are also about the same age.
Actually, bumblebee's post reminded me that I still have my prom dresses from both my junior year of HS (1996) and my senior year (1997). I would never wear them, but I still have them, so I guess they are older than the college sweatshirts which range in age from 8-5 years old.
I also have a peridot ring and necklace that my mom had made for me by her friend's husband, who is a jeweler, when I was born. So that would make those about 26 years old or thereabouts.
I have lots of work clothes from 1999-2003, but I don't think that counts in my book because I could easily get rid of it all if it weren't just basics.
I have a beautiful brown Coach bag from 1997, I still love it and mix it in the wardrobe often.
Believe it or not, I got real longevity from a pair of tan pants from Old Navy from 1996, though now the cut/style isn't in fashion anymore so I am about to let them go.
Another old one is my turqouise Mandarin top, I guess this is considered vintage, but it was my mom's and it's from a trip she took to California in the early 70's, she shopped in Chinatown. I wore this a lot in the mid-90's and back then it was really unique!
Then here's a black sleeveless feather boa trimmed top, it's hard to see the detail, anyway it's cute, from 2001.
I think one of my oldest items is my yellow argyle sweater (Jenna Malone wore it in Stepmom) it is Free People. I got it my senior year in yellow and grey. Cannot to part with it I am such a prep.
