I've been feeling generally terrible lately - getting sick a lot, fatigued, faint. It's been worrying me a lot. I finally got an appointment with a good doctor who so far has tested some iron levels and Vitamin D levels as well as the standard tests.
Results showed I had rock bottom levels of Vitamin D and really low ferritin (stores of iron). I guess I always prefer to eat more vegetarian but I do eat meat. I've been put on 5000IU of Vit.D a day as well as iron supplements.
Has anyone else ever had these deficiencies? The doctor said that not many people are tested especially for Vitamin D levels but most women are deficient. I was pretty surprised since I eat pretty well.
I'm just really hoping the supplements can help. Tired of feeling blah all the time.
I was tested for Vit D and I was low. Not super low like it sounds you are, though. But the supplements have been helping - at my last appointment, my levels were higher (although not perfect yet). I take 1000 IU of D-3 a day.

I imagine those two will help you feel better. I don't know much about the short-term feelings of a D deficiency, but I know the iron one will make you feel super draggy. Good luck with the supplements!
I had an iron deficiency last year. I had to take a supplement which was awful because... TMI... it makes you super constipated. Taking a B12 supplement really helped my iron level enough that I don't have to take the iron pills any longer.
I had almost non-existent ferritin about two years ago. I had to take an iron supplement. I cut them in half to make it easier. Caffeine blocks the absorption of iron and citrus increases absorption. If you eat half an orange before an iron rich meal, it helps a great deal. No tea or coffee with meals is good too. There are quite a few vegetables that are high in iron as well as the meats.
Good luck. I remember almost falling asleep driving home from work at the end of the day. it was good to know why.
Thanks Cheryle - that is really useful information. I know it's hard for most people to absorb the supplements - I am trying to force myself to eat more meat. Will remember the citrus advice. It's quite a scary feeling - I know what you must have felt like almost falling asleep driving! It's a relief to have some reason though and something to help.
Hello Guys according to my thinking Iron is an important for development of various necessary proteins, such as hemoglobin proteins in red blood vessels tissues that provides fresh air throughout the body. The Institutions of Health Food and Nutrition specify the everyday suggested consumption of iron for men and for women.Iron products can cause adverse reactions, the most typical being bowel blockage. Thanks a lot!!
